In her wool knitted hat and her worn out coat
She walked with her bags in the streaming cold
Through the fog and the rain she was all alone
The fields and the highways that were her home

Seeing her makes me wonder what my life's made to be

Had she walked there all day I can only but guess
She's feeling so pretty but wears no dress
In the two garbage bags there all her treasures lie
She knows it's all junk though she'll never know why

All at once the dense fog lifted off of the road
Looked out for a moment and set down her load
Trying never to let her great tiredness show
She sat on the gravel near the decomposed

Leaning back on her trash using it as a shield
She lighted a cigarette, looked o'er the field
The sun it was low, lighting grass green and bright
I'm wishing she'll stay there until the twilight
