Altiplano, Volor Flex’s effervescent collab with fellow Russian producer and good friend Encode, is yet another dateless - albeit state-of-the-art - immersion into the polyrhythmic, dense, visceral compositions that this prolific artist is constantly fine-tuning somewhere in the steppe of the Ural Mountains.

There’s a lot of synced up emotional comfort and tension happening on both sides of the release, balanced-out, as ever, by artfully crafted elements of structure and style. Among them, the everpresent UK garage signature, the noise-drenched soundscapes, the sharp snares, the skittering beats, the melancholy vocals (especially on Altiplano, which easily competes with You In Me or Fake Love in unforgettableness), plus those entrancing moments of fervor followed by profound relief that Volor is such a master of.

The main track and subsequently the EP were named after the highest and largest plateau in South America, and that’s how exalted and wide-reaching this music should feel. Both inner-city and otherwordly, both London and Syktyvkar, the 7-track, two-sided EP is going deep to get that right, raw vibe. The 12” comes with a wonderfully exciting digital perk, a sweet and soulful bonus track titled Avia.

The solar system-themed collection of tracks leaves its concept to be discovered in the music, as always. Each of the ten tracks channels emotions and states of mind that render genre names obsolete, making this journey through planets a legitimate exploration of an incredible spirit's universe.

Juk-Shabb is a Great Old One which communicates by changing color and using telepathy. The being is a powerful psionic and has extensive knowledge of magic. The cult of Juk-Shabb was well known for its brutality and sacrifices to appease their deity. The priests of this cult were feared throughout Egypt for their knowledge of dark magic and rituals involving human sacrifice.

"A great collective of shadows fell over the sky like the lid of tomb, crushing the light of the world into a feral darkness. A torrent of vague manifestations of transparency mixed with moving colours formed an impression of disintegrating brilliance across the cloud base, embroidering the darkness with a shimmering inconstancy which never aspired to a true substance. No, this is a collaboration and huge undertaking. Over 20 artists linked studios and sound for over a year so that they could work with each other. This led to a deep collaborative exploration of the Mythos and Rhan-Tegoth
