The music for this is kind of experimental-- I'm doing little things in between the lines, and changing the tempo and style a few times. But I'm trying to fit it to the message of the song, which is basically that I identify with Mabel and I'm on her side, although she was weird!

Mood

There are three tracks, an iReal Pro backing track I made, my vocal track, and  my harmonica track. This song is to be sung by Ted Campion, the "older brother" character in my story. He explores his existential position here, and, sorry to say, disparages his brother's approach to life and slightly disses his sister-in-law.

My Own Man (Ted's Song)

Most of the instrumentation was created on iReal Pro by plugging in chord names and choosing digital instruments. Vocals and guitar-ish frills added by me in Garageband. This song is to be sung by the therapist character in my "musical," Placida. She's kinda telling "where she's at," and why.

This is my first rap/hip-hop attempt as part of the musical I'm working on. It was FUN. It's to be performed by the character of Dr. Amos Bobbit as he consults with the character Ben Stillman after his recovery from a mini-stroke.

This song is part of the "musical" I'm working on. It's to be sung by young Kendall (next-door neighbor) as he talks with Edwina about mowing her yard. Quite a few haphazard iReal Pro tracks on this one, even though I meant to keep it simple. Well, the melody is simple (and probably derivative).

This song is for my "musical" also, but very simple. The character of Ted C. is singing it to a waitress he finds at a place where the "old" Rudy's restaurant/bar/gay hangout used to be. He reminisces before asking her where the place moved to. This is just ukulele and double-tracked vocals.

The nuclear family can be a site of distress as well as love. This song from my "musical" is to be sung by Edna Stillman, Ben's mother, when Ben (in his 30s) attempts once again to get her to acknowledge that his father frequently sexually molested him when he was young. Yet she struggles to face this, and always has. I am trying to discover HER feelings.

Sam Stillman Was A Good Provider

Pointless protest song with hokey iReal Pro track, added uke track, clunky uke leads, and an earnest vocal delivery. Not part of my musical, but a response to a traditional/old-time songwriting retreat I just attended in North Carolina. I did see an outhouse, but I don't know if it was for sale or not. It was in the yard of an antique store on a mountainous road.

She's an old lady named Feenie, and she's about to smash the solar panels on her next-door-neighbor's house! She thinks she's doing something great (MAGA-style), but she's deluded!
