A soft downtempo mix from one of NYC's finest techno DJs. In a post-pandemic New York that has witnessed an explosion of new talent, Emma Olson, who goes by Umfang, is by now a recognized veteran who is well-respected for her fluency in techno – and not just as a DJ, but also as someone engaged with its political history and contemporary social contexts. Her psychedelic all-vinyl sets move the body AND mind and are proof that the true skill of the DJ isn’t necessarily what one plays, but how.

“I have been wanting to make a slower mix for a long time which is hilariously challenging for me coming from mostly playing techno,” says Umfang. “I make subdued sparse music and have had a difficult time closing the gap between soundscapes I'm drawn to and the music I play in the club.” 

The result is the sound of a bridge. “This is a reflection of some intentional digging for downtempo, a desire to feature the music my friends are making now that excites me, and the one-off ambient tracks from techno artists that often don't find a place in the club.” Considering these new tempos and textures, the variety here is cohesive, and it also feels intimate — the sound of an artist earnestly building out new comfort zones.

A. Formerly a Chicago resident for the past decade, I would travel to NYC once or twice a year to attend / play shows. I finally moved here a few weeks ago and am excited to be a regular part of the scene and community (& contribute to the iconic Juanita’s mix series!)

After a dark year+ of life's growing pains, with the decision to move home to Wales, ending a big relationship, reaching for the future self.
A meadow of flowers became my light, a vision of the future and a safe space to grow, to reclaim my senses.
During all the change, the vision of the meadow would keep me calm and somehow became my beacon.

Now I'm living amongst the meadows, nurturing the soul, resetting, mourning, celebrating, all that came before.

To be able to share this soundpiece on that day, my birthday, full moon rising of course, meant so so much.
To see all these conscious beings feel it, go into the soil, feel the growing journey, then dance like frolicking flowers, was so special, eternally grateful for that platform to express the truth <3

Thank you so much to the Les Siestes community, was such a special festival, to celebrate adventurous sound. 
A free public event, set in the Japanese zen garden in Toulouse.
The wether was so moody all weekend, but somehow the concerts stayed dry, then sun even came out for my set, a birthday gift to me :))

Sonic storytelling from Glasgow's ambient power duo Somewhere Press. The mix is, according to Caapi and Lizzie Urquhart, a musing on the Divine Feminine, which got me thinking about something James Hillman, archon of all things archetypal, said about the study of Beauty. Apparently (so says James) the ancient root of the word "Aesthetics" comes close to meaning "I breathe in" and the mixes, releases and vibe of Somewhere Press has certainly breathed something beautiful into Glasgow's musical landscape. We hope you enjoy this latest Forecast addition and urge you to keep an eye out for the upcoming "The Blue Hour" compilation coming out soon via Boomkat.
