MOTHER EARTH PROJECT - Information on don Andrés, Raureme:
Barely 11 years old, Andrés began to take part in the ceremonies and pilgrimages to the sacred sites of his Wixárika ancestors. At 20 years of age he was chosen by Grandfather Fire Tatewarí for his first charge within the "Jicareros" (those who preserve the spiritual knowledge and tradition of the community). It was at this age that he successfully carried out his first healing session. Only two years thereafter he would begin to channel and sing to the energy of the sacred deer, Kauyumari. At 25 years of age he would become the principal singer of the Jicareros of his community.
Don Andrés has successfully fulfilled all possible positions of responsibility and service within the Wixárika community and the Jicareros. He is esteemed as one of the highest ranking Marakames in his community with a vast knowledge and power.
