I wrote this song after driving from my home in Scotland to my mum's in Cornwall. 16 months of lockdown without seeing family. 
 I can only drive 50mph in my old VW van so I was in the, extremely busy motorway slow lane all the way and felt like a truck sandwich filler. Stress levels at max, So relieved was I, to arrive and flop! this song just 'happened'. I have not done anything to it, I just sang it through my yamaha keyboard, so it's warts and all. hope you like it.

QUIET IN MY SOUL

Holloween26 is a protest song that came to me over the weekend,  spurred by this crucial time for the future. The climate, in the hands of all of us but it's a plea to our world leaders coming together for Cop 26, DO NOT FAIL US, PLEASE!  I have  called the song 'Halloween26' because I finished the demo last night 31st October after returning from the climate march in Edinburgh.

Dead Star

'Dust' will probably mean different things to different people. For me it's about trying not to live with regrets.

The words of this song were inspired by a neighbour of mine who uses nothing but the old fashioned lines of communication, In person, landline telephone, pen and paper. No Computer for him, no smartphone, no Zoom meet-ups or Facebook 'liking'. 
The rest of us are racing about in circles, chasing our technological tails.

Keep Up! Take 2.

This is version 3 of my song 'A twist of Yarn'. I feel that it is getting close now to how I want it to sound. Let me know your thoughts. It is a cry for help, probably lost in the noise and short span of attention of our time. We urgently need to rethink so much of what we are producing these days. This song is my response to the film 'Stracci,' by @silviagambi and @tommasosanti about the tradition of recycling textiles in Prato, Italy.  The problem, now on a global scale, feels somewhat insurmountable. What do we do with our clothing once we, as individuals, discard it? Should we be buying on a whim just to throw away before it has even had a life? Should we reconsider the fabric content? So much of our clothing is plastic in guise of 'acceptabe words such as nylon, acrylic and synthetic....yes, it is plastic waste. Perhaps it is time to change our mindset so that we can hand over the land to future generations in a fairly reasonable condition???

A Twist Of Yarn [Keep Spinning]

This song was written when I heard the news that my sister was diagnosed with cancer. I was in another country cycling and so far away from home.  Knowing what is up ahead, trying to bury it but there is no escaping it.

I have found this other mix of Dead Star. This song like many others, is still a work in progress. sometimes I have to drop them for a while and revisit with a fresh vision.
I wrote Dead Star pretty much in one sitting a couple of years back now. I was feeling despair at our human lack of connection with the very place that is our home, our life source, our feeder and our shelter. There is no need to explain what this song is about really, not in too much detail as it has its own voice. I still hold on to a little hope that we can come back from the brink.

Well, what can I say that millions haven't already shouted out. I needed an outlet for my utter horror and dismay at the world right now. So here is my song for Palestine.

What on Earth?

This is a song about trying to make the best of the things we have because we don't know what we've got until it is gone....as the saying goes.
After a conversation with a guy who was just turniing 50, he told me his mate had said something like, "look man, these are your best last days, you better get out there and live them". This was to become a title of a song yet to be written.
A few days later whilst sitting in the graveyard next to my garden, which is such a peaceful place, This song emerged. I was looking at the headstones, how they each represented an individual life, flesh and bone that once lived and loved, laughed and cried. Now they don't, they are stone...I wonder what they would tell me if they could about living my life?

BEST LAST DAYS

I wrote this about 4 years ago whilst cycling into a wild headwind. One thing led to another in my thoughts and out popped a song on a topic that I actually wanted and intended to write about at some point. There is was, that wicked wind!
I have this feeling that Scientists in the very near future will be saying 'I told you so' when it is all too late.

I heard a guy talking about his work on the 'Life Scientific'  BBC R4  program one day. He has spent 40 years of his life's career listening out for any signals from other planets, other possible life forms sending messages or answering ours. He said something like...'There may be zero, or perhaps one,.. if more than one there could be an infinite amount'....Wow!, I thought. Fancy spending all that time living in hope...waiting for a sign. Then I thought, actually aren't we all waiting or hoping for something beyond our wildest dreams.

Sometimes it takes a while before it is time. My journey has been a long one but eventually the train stopped here and I got off to have a look back down the line.
