I think it is worthy to note that Riki and I, who are both Filipino abstained from the use of the N-word on this track. Especially in contrast to my homeboy Charles' verse, who is Black. Even as teens almost 25 years ago, we began to question the use of the N-word by non-Black members of our Bay Area community while battling our own tendency to use the word as a term of endearment. Black friends often referred to us the same.

If you didn't already know, non-Black kids who grow up in the Bay commonly use the term as if we are Black ourselves. The high population density of the Bay and the fact we often grew up closely together are contributors but IMO does not excuse the behavior especially in today’s political climate. With growth comes awareness and understanding. Today we should know better.
