In this installment of Sound Advice, our guest is New Jersey’s Harry Romero. Considered one of the legends of the house music world, his discography runs deep, first releasing his own tracks in the mid-1990s on iconic NYC deep house labels like Strictly Rhythm and Nervous Records – and he hasn’t missed a beat since. We caught up with Harry from his home studio, better known as The Butcher Shop, to talk more about his smooth and pumping house sound, what inspired his new release on Defected, his approach to sampling and edits, using SoundCloud as a DJ/producer and record label owner, and much more. Plus, Harry shares essential tips, from how to approach writing tracks for the dancefloor to sending out demos.

In this installment of Sound Advice, we’re joined by Bicep, the Belfast-born, London-based duo whose deft blend of house, trance and breaks have made them some of the UK’s most acclaimed live electronic performers. After two albums on the Ninja Tune label — 2017’s self-titled and 2021’s ‘Isles’ — and years of touring, they’re now back in their studio, working on their club-focused ‘CHROMA’ series and forthcoming album. We caught up with Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson from their studio to discuss their genre-agnostic influences, their musical evolution as Bicep, the creative challenges of having a digital and analog studio, and how they’ve used SoundCloud to grow as artists.
