Irish vinyl maestro and head of Earwiggle imprint, Sunil Sharpe is a name that speaks for itself. 

His technical skills are impeccable, ripping records off the turntables and cutting between tracks in a blur of motion: whether is techno, electro, industrial or EBM, nothing is beyond his exemplary mixing.

Tresor (German for safe or vault) is an underground techno nightclub in Berlin and a record label.

History:

The club was founded in March 1991 in the vaults of the former department store Wertheim at Leipziger Strasse 126-128 in Mitte, the central part of East Berlin, next to the Potsdamer Platz. The history of the club goes back to 1988 when the electronic music label Interfisch opened the Ufo Club in Berlin. Ufo was the original centre of Berlin house and techno, but due to financial problems that club closed in 1990.
After Ufo closed, Interfisch's head, Dimitri Hegemann, and some investors in the club found the new space in East Berlin. This was advantageous timing, as it was only a few months before Germany unified. The vaults under the Wertheim department store proved to be the perfect location for a club, and Tresor quickly became the place to be in Berlin. Tresor continued to be a popular club, having expanded and reconstructed continuously several times to include an outdoor garden area, and a second "Globus" floor. The Tresor floor in the basement was reserved specifically for hard techno, industrial and acid music, while Globus was featured mainly more mellow house sound. The record label Tresor Records was founded soon after the club first opened, in October 1991. Featured artists on the label include Jeff Mills, Blake Baxter, Juan Atkins, Robert Hood, Drexciya, Stewart Walker, Joey Beltram, DJ Surgeon, Pacou, Cristian Vogel and many others.
In 2004 the documentary "Tresor Berlin: The Vault & the Electronic Frontier" was released. Directed by Mike Andrawis, it features interviews with Hegemann, Carola Stoiber, and DJs & artists associated with the club & label. The film covers the period from Hegemann's involvement with the Fishladen and UFO clubs in Berlin-Kreuzberg to the final months prior to Tresor's closure.
Tresor closed on 16 April 2005, after several years' prolonged short-term rent. The city sold the land to an investor group to build offices on the Leipziger Straße location. It was open for each night of April 2005, with the final event starting the Saturday night with queues stretching all the way down the road, and still going Monday morning.
Tresor reopened on 24 May 2007 in the decommissioned southern tract of the combined heat and power plant Heizkraftwerk Berlin-Mitte in Köpenicker Straße. 
Since November 2019 the club has a subsidiary in the city of Dortmund called Tresor.West. 
In September 2022, Tresor published a photobook, Tresor: True Stories, to document the past 30 years of its history.

Sunil Sharpe is one of Europe's most renowned and well-loved techno DJs. Gaining an enviable reputation for his DJing in the early '00s, he was soon invited to play at Berlin's Tresor Club, marking the start of an intensive involvement in the techno scene. Sunil has played extensively around Europe at the likes of Berghain, Fabric, Concrete, Sub Club, Glastonbury Festival and much more. He was also DJ of choice on the first two Karenn European tours, the last of which was marked by his now classic Boiler Room set in London.

Known primarily for his fast-moving, skillful style on the decks, Sunil's reputation as a producer of raw, individualistic techno, has grown in tandem with his reputation as a DJ. To date he has appeared on labels such as Works The Long Nights (aka Sheworks), Black Sun Records, Rave Or Die, Trensmat, Mord, Inner Surface Music, Violet Poison and many more. Sunil also recently setup On The Hoof, a label dedicated specifically to his own productions and collaborations with friends.

Sunil makes up one half of Tinfoil alongside fellow Dublin-based producer DeFeKT. Initially forged as a studio partnership in 2014 (and more recently as a live show), the pair have since racked up an impressive catalogue of 12"s on their own self-titled label. Additionally, Sunil runs the wonderfully erratic Earwiggle imprint that has built a dedicated following, releasing new names and old heroes into the battlefield.

Sunil's application to techno and the scene in general, pushes far beyond the standard DJ/producer mould. Enjoying a long stint in pirate radio from his early days of active DJing, Sunil joined national station RTÉ 2fm in 2007, where he has since offered up a monthly mix of new music. The show has also been characterized by in-depth interviews with the likes of Jeff Mills, Surgeon, Blawan and many others.

Sunil has also devised a new format for playing/reviewing new music in "The Quarterly Crate". Now in its third year, the hugely informative video series supplies a special insight into his most recent vinyl acquisitions.

Sunil's reputation as a "turntable wizard" is long established from his early days as a DJ in Dublin (when local competition was fierce and word of mouth meant everything). Delivering his implacable two-hour missive through blends of breaks-laden rhythms, frenzied machine talk and murky, weatherbeaten ambiences, Sunil Sharpe boggles the mind and knocks senses askew, not letting loose on his astonished prey - understand the odd raver bracing themselves for the blast incoming. Unless they’ve already bashed their skull in the system’s facade and got to taste the visceral high of sound flowing through their body. You think it’s an image, but the man is a literalist.

The final set at Tivoli Theatre, home of District 8 since 2014, and to all manner of events since the 1930s. Its closure is a blow to the city and in particular the Dublin 8 area. Was a sad but very special closing night, am happy to have been part of it. Recorded by RTÉ 2fm
