perila – time mix

Assembled to accompany a short film from Manchester-born visual artist, poet and filmmaker Tibyan Mahawah Sanoh, Joshua Inyang and Joshua Tarelle’s newest is a cinematic audit of identity and ancestry. In the film, Sanoh works hard to visually illustrate an honest and vulnerable picture of her soul. Inyang and Tarelle respond by doing the same with sound, collaging disparate elements together in a way that should be familiar to anyone who heard "hybtwibt?" or their jawdropping RA mix from earlier this year.

Warped field recordings, overdriven rhythmic pressure, syrupy pads and disorienting vocals are cut and pasted over each other, generating a living, breathing study of the duo's Northern working class Black British reality. Unlike the duo's acclaimed "Somewhere Decent To Live" full-length, elements mutate and transform: mushy noise bends into street sounds, haunted vocals into echoing drill melancholia and muffled howls into shattered digital remnants.

🎓 Anubis is one of the most iconic and revered deities of ancient Egypt. Often depicted with the head of a jackal and the body of a man, Anubis was the god of mummification and the afterlife. He was responsible for guiding the souls of the dead through the perilous journey to the underworld, where they would be judged by the god Osiris.

Anubis was also closely associated with embalming and funerary rites, and his role in the mummification process was critical. It was believed that he would weigh the heart of the deceased against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth, to determine if the person was worthy of entering the afterlife.

Faitiche welcomes Andrew Black aka blackbody_radiation. His debut album Ultra-Materials gathers six ghostly drones, created with the help of sound masking.

Andrew Black, who hails from one of the UK's post industrial North West Milltowns has a sensitive feeling for space and its acoustics. Having trained as a designer and operated within the realms of architecture and public space, it was only natural to extend his interest to manipulating field recordings.  The six pieces collected on Ultra-Materials provide an insight into Black's highly sensitive minimalism: they stand for a subtly meandering mediation on room acoustics and place, which are manipulated with the help of sound masking, among other things - that is, the addition and superimposition of artificially generated frequencies to mask unwanted sounds.   Sometimes the pieces are reminiscent of warm engine noise, sometimes one thinks of carefully captured natural phenomena. Their strength lies in their elusiveness: free of concrete attributions or musical location, they can unfold their hypnotic pull without revealing anything about their origins. Harmonics at times shimmer, at times warble and at times coexist. It is an attempt to get in touch with our listening abilities.

Forest On Stasys, co-founder of Danza Nativa, has long been delivering fresh sounds from Buenos Aires. Now, as the year draws to a close, he returns with a new project: Aura Sonora, a label devoted to sonic experimentation and exploration. He will launch the label himself with Magnetismo, a three-track debut available in a limited vinyl run and digital format from 25th November.

The EP’s closing track, Sideral, begins with a deep tribal feel that runs throughout the release, yet this final track offers something distinct. The eerie, low-end tones remain, but they are joined by a fusion of a nostalgic 90s acid vibe and a sense of futurism - a wonderfully executed combination of drum & bass, half-time, and techno, reminiscent in any of his sets.

A strong debut release for Aura Sonora—one designed for the dancefloor.

Inspired by open spaces (and the objects that interrupt them), META DOOR L is the latest auditory excursion from Perila. Expansive in scope, it extracts beauty from the organic and inorganic alike, tapping into the wonder of the outdoors as it revels in the unique properties of metal—both as a material and a sound source. Building on her work for labels like Sferic, Motion Ward, and Boomkat Editions, META DOOR L is rooted in field recordings extracted from the wilderness outside Tbilisi, where a series of hiking expeditions led Perila to chance encounters with metal tubes, large rocks and the ruins of an old house. In the months that followed, these recordings were patiently processed, degraded and transformed, their misshapen remains welded together by hazy ambient atmospheres and textured soundscapes. From there, the St. Petersburg-raised, Berlin-based artist pushed herself into new creative territory, searching for the innate (and decidedly non-linear) rhythms lurking within her dense sonic stratigraphy. META DOOR L is the hypnotic end result, an immersive listen whose lush tones and guttural rumbles coalesce into something utterly transportive.
