Pronouns

Verse 1:

I was the me in my land night and day

They was a pronoun for plural
As if it was on a giant mural

Chorus:
I was unaware 
that in the air
these pronouns 
needed a slowdown 

Verse 2:
“They” meant a group of people
Especially for those under the steeple
They wasn’t an individual
Despite the visual

I never dreamed

That someone would prefer
That they refer to  her

Final Verse:
Basic humanity
Call someone what they want
Be it he, she, they or something else

Unused Lyrical Ideas:
they may not fit everyone, 
and it’s not always fun
that it might be a preferred pronoun for an individual
Even someone viewed as irresistible
Now there are choices that an individual may prefer
I hear Ze, Hir, Hirs, 
However the plural they/them/theirs my be preferred in it’s singular form 
as it is more encompassing of gender
Yes, its basic human empathy
If someone goes by he, then call them he
If someone goes by she, then call them she
If someone goes by they, then call them they
Non-binary
Gay

I was rooming with a comic book, illustrator, and went to a Comic Con in LA. Somebody else heard this song and suggested the title. I could see this amorphous character running around like Stay Puft marshmallow man in Ghostbusters.

Competition entry for the Professional Composers Community 2020 August Sad Music Contest.

I had a really hard time with this competition theme. This is my fifth attempt, and the first idea that didn't just end up depressingly uninteresting. Unfortunately, I didn't come up with it until the weekend before the deadline, so I only had two days, but that's enough for a piece like this, once there is a proper idea to build on.

The vision behind this piece is rather abstract... "Where do we go from here?" I suppose that's how I feel about life in general right now, but not exactly in a way that inspires creativity, which is probably why I had such a hard time with this.
