At last! After 15 years of Pink Floyd, Internet seeking and misadventure, the debut single from Thousand Knives has hit the street. Birthed from the primordial chaos of subterranean caverns around MetroWest Boston, “The Grand Marquis” is a testament to the indelible, mystical power of music- all music.

Frantic electronic drum rhythms, shimmering waves of Farfisa organ and the elegiac whines of old Roland synthesizers communicate the experience of a long, night-time drive in that fabled vehicle. It is the sound of conveyance without destination and the dream of suburban transcendence; of CAN, legendary James Brown singles and classic 80s & 90s Nintendo soundtracks.

You see, it was on countless cruises such as this—in between repeated viewings of the CAN Free Concert—that Thousand Knives and his accomplice, James Whitney, put all the pieces together. Their lived experiences were like something out of a long-lost Philip K. Dick novel- their futures the fever dream of coast-to-coast tours, funky bass lines and the Japanese countryside.

“What does it all mean?” they asked themselves.
