The Dank Depths has always struck me as a sort of place Isaac feels he should belong; it's sticky, gross, and his self-image seems tainted beyond belief. If he wishes he was never born, then I imagine the Dank Depths would be an ideal place to die. Left to rot in tar, to be forgotten like everything else in time.

The Womb levels of Isaac really do strike me as a point of no return; you've faced the person responsible for your pain, and now you're inside her. The game carries on like nothing ever happened. Would at that point, Isaac, a child, feel any semblance of remorse?
