𝐀𝐕𝐌 Interpretation

Niki Sadeki, is the curator of Deep House Vancouver and as a DJ, she's gradually amplified a signature sound fluidly grounded in deep progressive up and downtempo ranges. What carries her sets has less to do with genre and more with isolating a mood, and building up different currents around it. Words from Niki: 
"Longer sets always mean having the opportunity to explore many different moods and styles, finding that common thread between them, and the ability to bring them all  together. Working on this mix was an absolute pleasure. I took it as the opportunity to mute the outside world for hours and to dive into the world of music - my happy place. I don't want to get super sentimental here, but making this mix was definitely a healing journey for me, and I felt I got to reconnect with a side of me which has been less present in the past year or so. I hope you enjoy going through it, as much as I did :)"

While the yellow silhouette of the golden morning sun stands out on the horizon and all life awakens, the penguin rubs his sleepy eyes and shakes its frozen plumage. He waddles slowly and deliberately, the cool water promisingly in front of him. 

After dunking his head under the surface, he feels an eerie feeling of refreshment. Quickened by this feeling, he makes his morning laps around the ice floes and waves to his comrades on the shore, who gradually start following him.

Matija is a well-travelled gentleman: From the Swiss province, where he took his first (and second) musical steps, he was drawn to the street jungle of the German capital Berlin, where he stayed for 6 years and deepened his craft. Together with his then roommate Dave Dinger, he moved around the houses and rocked clubs like Bar25 etc. with him.

And if you make it in Berlin, you take little Zurich by storm: Matija set out to conquer the Swiss scene metropolis after his return. With success: After party series in the supermarket, Hive (and other clubs) he worked for years as a night manager in the Zurich Hive Club and still continues to play in this one as a resident.

As a former night manager of Gonzo, Frieda's Büxe and Hive, he has now been on the road as a DJ for 24 years throughout Switzerland and often internationally, among others with Dave Dinger. With his sets he always provides that certain treat on the dancefloors.

Yoga is the fashionable thing now. Yoga, as translated, means joining, yoking two separate things together. I am sure it had quite a different meaning at the beginning. Yoga meant probably harmony, not bringing two things together, the soul and the body. Yoga has been brought to the Western world to make people healthy, happy, young, find God. Originally, from what I was told, there was a certain leaf in the Himalayas which only very few people chewed, and it kept their brains and their minds tremendously alert. And as the vine or the bush disappeared, they had to invent a system called yoga which kept all the glands perfectly healthy, operating efficiently. And that is how yoga came into being, the exercises. Also in it is involved a moral way of life, not just doing some silly little exercises.

Blutdürstig und hungrig nehme ich Witterung auf. Hochkonzentriert filtere ich mit meinem feinen Geruchssinn, die Luft und lasse die unterschiedlichen Gerüche auf mich wirken. Meine Beute ist nicht mehr weit entfernt. Nahezu lautlos setze ich mich wieder in Bewegung und nehme ein weiteres Mal die Verfolgung auf. Auf meinem Weg praßeln diverse Eindrücke auf mich ein. Ich nehme Gesprächsfetzen wahr, ein Baby weint und ich rieche den Duft von frisch gebratenem Fleisch. Das erinnert mich wieder an meinen unbändigen Bärenhunger und ich erhöhe mein Tempo. Ab und an halte ich kurz inne und schnüffele angestrengt. Ja, ich bin ganz nah dran. Mit einem kräftigen Satz überquere ich eine menschenleere Straße und lande sanft in einer spärlich beleuchteten Gasse. Instinktiv entweicht meiner Kehle ein kerniges Knurren. Ich habe mein Ziel erreicht. Der Geruch von frischem Blut und Angstschweiß ist hier ganz intensiv. Ich bahne mir meinen Weg, vorbei an umgekippten Mülltonnen und defekten Straßenlaternen. Dann sehe und höre ich mein Opfer. Außer Atem und völlig erschöpft presst sich die junge Frau eine Hand auf die klaffende Bisswunde an ihrem Bein. Sie sitzt zusammengekauert auf dem Bordstein. Heiße Tränen laufen ihr über das Gesicht und ab und an entfährt ihren Lippen ein leises Stöhnen. Sie hat mich noch nicht bemerkt. Ich pirsche mich bedacht an meine Beute heran. Währenddessen wächst meine Blutlust ins unermessliche. Speichel tropft aus meinen Lefzen und ich mache mich bereit zum Angriff. Im letzten Moment realisiert mein Opfer die drohende Gefahr. Sie schreit und springt auf. Viel zu langsam ... Doch bevor ich meine Fänge in ihrer Kehle versenken kann, trifft mich ein stahlharter Schlag. Wie aus dem nichts hat sich ein weiterer Akteur aus der Dunkelheit der Nacht geschält. Es handelt sich um einen hochgewachsenen jungen Burschen von kräftiger Statur. In seinen Händen hält er ein großes und schweres Gewehr. Damit fuchtelt er nun wild hin und her und schreit mich an: „Hau ab du Mistvieh, was willst die hier, geh weg“. Meine Antwort ist ein kehliges knurren und noch bevor der Störenfried ein weiteres Mal mit seiner Waffe zuschlagen kann, stürze ich mich mit gefletschten Zähnen auf ihn. 
Während sich der junge Mann und die Bestie einen Kampf auf Leben und Tod liefern, schleppt sich die junge Frau, mit letzter Kraft aus der Gefahrenzone. Sie überlebt. Vielleicht aber auch nur, weil nun jemand anderes den Blutdurst der dämonischen Kreatur stillen musste ...

Wow time flies… I played my very first dj set in front of a crowd exactly 25 years ago. I used to practice in the basement of a youth club every week because I couldn’t afford my own turntables. When playing my first gigs I was shaking and was so intimidated I could barely speak. Honestly, it’s still the same even if I’m able to hide it now. If I wouldn’t feel this nervousness and excitement any longer I would let it go and quit. 
Since we are still not able to celebrate properly I prepared a podcast for you with my current favorite slow tracks. 
I think it’s perfect for the upcoming summer vibes, for listening at home and dreaming about festivals 🐈💫🌈❤️🦄

It really is an amazing moment to have one of our most respected artists for Flow Sessions, as it also reflects our focus expanding to other parts of the world and we are so happy to have the West Coast Vibes from the inimitable Sabo! Words from the artist: 
"This mix is very special to me and I’m really excited to share it. This was recorded in Bonjuk Bay, Turkey, back in September 2020 for the ICBKR event. It was my first time DJing to a live audience in over 8 months. The setting was perfect - a beautiful warm sunny day on a gorgeous beach in Southern Turkey, and while the sun began to set, a nice little crowd of happy dancing carefree souls gathered in front of me. It felt so good to take people on a musical ride again, and to feed off their energy. I was really feeling the vibes and went deep into my crates playing lots of feel good classics I hadn’t heard in years. At one point during the sunset I literally started to tear up, as I finally felt FREE again. This was hands down one of my favourite sets in all my 25 years of playing records. I hope you enjoy the story, and please remember, happiness and dancing is the best medicine for a healthy life. " -@djsabo
