Was a little busy today so it took a while to get around to doing this!

That said, I think it's kinda cool. I don't know why my mind went to the space aesthetic, but I do like how it turned out. It also made for a cool artwork for this one.

I'm glad this one is relatively simple because I was STRESSING yesterday! SO much to do on "Compass"! This was like a nice break. It WAS a nice break after I finished up schoolwork.

Collide

OK, the process to make this one was SO nice... everything came together really quickly, I did very few takes to get something I was pleased with... SO great.

For example, I did a total of about five takes to get the guitar right. For vocals, I got most of it in the very first take, and only had to do a few more because I was a little off in the verse.

There's not much else to it. It's a simple song about escapism, and apparently, it did not take much for me to bring it to life.

Open

So, it may appear that this was a very difficult track to make, taking me HOURS to perfect.

In truth, however, this was actually a pretty easy one, once I'd decided what direction to go with it.

The only reason this is late is that I have family staying over, and I wanted to spend time with them, as I hardly get to see them mostly. 

So I actually did most of this in the morning before they arrived, then finished recording (which was just changing the drums up a bit) and mixed/mastered it in the last half hour. Again, not a complicated song – very simple.

So, that is why it is late. Once again... it's the 23rd still somewhere!

Leak

OK, I'm not gonna lie... I've had a very busy day today, and that is a big reason why this one is so short. I do think it actually works for it though, weirdly, but it is far from my most imaginative work.

That said, I do like the bass in this one, it gives kind of a mysterious vibe to it? And the piano adds to it as well, I dunno. I like the sudden ending too.

As a heads up: I will have a busy day – possibly busier than today – tomorrow. This means that I'll likely be either uploading tomorrow's track past midnight (which is fine, I've done it before) and/or it will be kind of like this one, pretty short with not a lot to it. Maybe I WILL end up writing something that requires seven hours of work (I hope not for my sake, I'd be WAY too stressed) but we will see.

Extinct

As I mentioned on "Extinct", I was SUPER busy today, hence why there's only two instruments and my voice on this one...

... but "Splat" actually surprised me! I ended up putting more into it than I thought I would, which was pretty cool. I think my vocal performance is actually one of my better ones, and the piano drives much of the song. The drums are more supporting here, they don't ever really take center stage.

I don't know. It's just cool to me, I guess. Just a simple song about paintball (which I have never played by the way!)

Splat

OK... this one might have gotten away from me a bit...

Here's the story: initially I was thinking about writing an acoustic-y, personal song about finding connections with people, or something. Then I decided, "Nah, I wanna write about something FUN! How about Connect 4?!"

I also decided to use video-gamey synths here because of the "game" theme. However, there are also some acoustic instruments like guitar and piano (they got a little buried from the synths, see if you can pick them out!)

Then I decided to layer the vocals... and then layer more... and MORE. There actually ended up being four vocal tracks in the chorus, which is kind of cool, given what the song is about!

I also was having the hardest time with the album cover, and ended up with what I did because it somewhat resembles a Connect 4 piece. However, I'm pretty sure it is actually styrofoam... go figure?

So yeah. There was no chance in getting it on time this late, especially with all of the extra stuff I ended up adding! I'm really proud of it though, which surprised me. It was fun to make!

Spark

OK, two things hindered this one being on time. The first was entirely my fault – I was lazy and didn't start until late in the evening. The SECOND was beyond my control – my computer wasn't registering my headphones for some reason, and I ended up having to restart it for it to work.

Anyways, I kind of like this one. It is the first one without proper chords, so the actual chords are more implied (most heavily in the chorus via the bass). I don't know why I took "Crispy" all the way to "Burnt" but whatever. It works. Haha.

Well! This is certainly the latest I've ever put out one of these. I'm sorry about that – I didn't get started until 11:30 in the evening, so I didn't give myself that much time to work with, either.

I actually came up with a completely different idea to this at first, which I completely scrapped. However, I used the same key and instruments as the first one, because by the time I was recording "Patch", it was already the next day for me. So I wanted SOMETHING of the 29th's influence in here, even though everything was technically recorded on the 30th.

Anyways, I think this one is pretty cool because of the spaces in the choruses – it lets the song breathe, which I found interesting.

Not my best singing performance, I think, but it will have to do.

Bit of an oddball, but most of these have been! Also, I wrote about a snake – what did you expect with "Slither" as the prompt? Hahaha.

I am sincerely hoping I can get tomorrow's track in ON THE DAY!! I had a lot of work to do today so I didn't even START on this guy until midnight had already passed. I don't want to end the challenge in November!

I was having trouble with the vocals on this, and only kind of got them to a place I could be somewhat happy with. Still not my favorite vocal performance though...

I DO like how the rest of it turned out. I think it has a solid mix, and I really like the "ss" that goes on throughout – that was kind of a last-minute addition!

Well, this is it!

I can't believe I made it through all 31 days! It definitely was tough – there were some days I did NOT feel up to making a song, but I am glad I pushed through.

I have done this before in 2019, but this time I added vocals, which was a bit of a "risk" in itself. My voice is not my best-developed instrument, but I have been working on it, and I am glad I managed to stay (mostly) on pitch for all 31 songs. 

As for the actual song itself, of course it had to be Halloween-themed! I also wanted it to feel like an ending if that makes sense. If you listened to all 31 tracks in order, this would be last, so that's why I added that fun ending to the track.

Yeah! Proud of this one, and proud of myself for managing to do this challenge. I will miss it, but I also will enjoy having more free time again! And I suppose I can always make a song whenever I want – this pretty much proved that haha.
