Me being the old bloke of the Club 53  DJ’s, I’ve always liked to spin a lot of different styles of dance music in Club 53.

For Vol 3 of this Club 53 90’s and early 00’s mini mash up mix, the handful of tracks were chosen by somebody very close to me (the wife ❤️) from the nights she used to throw shapes in the Club on a Saturday night, which is pretty fitting seen as it’s for Valentines weekend 😊

I hope this mini mash up brings back some great memories of the nights for you 😉

Just a little mix I’ve chucked together to keep you all going through the summer. Back in the early days of Club 53, the majority of the ‘Zoo’ heads would start downstairs in Sidewalk 53. In the summer all the windows down the side of the bar would be open and people would be jumping in and out of the windows instead of using the doors (especially if they were underage 🤫 😂).

So as the late days of the 90’s choons in Club 53 turned into the early 00’s, the bigger the choon the harder the beat.

For the volume 6.5? mini mash up mix I’ve picked a handful of late 90’s and early 00’s tracks that had the ‘Zoo’ crew bouncing till the early hours. I hope this mini mash up brings back some great memories of the nights in the ‘Zoo’ for you 😊

Back in 94 when Club 53 was born, the music in the back room had some amazing choons being played because between 94 & 96 everyone from Burnley seemed to go on holiday to Maga. Of course as soon as everyone got back home they wanted the choons playing that they’d heard in the clubs in Maga so they could throw some shapes and reminisce about being back abroad.

And so the Maga choons in Club 53 landed and the back room was like being back in Magaluf (trust me it was because I jumped on the bandwagon and went to Maga myself, we even threw a foam party 😂🎶🎵🎶).

So for volume 1 of the ‘Bacon fries Maga mid 90’s mini mash up mix’ I’ve picked a handful of mid 90’s tracks that had the ‘Zoo’ crew bouncing till the early hours in the back room 😊

Let’s see if any guesses why it’s called the “Bacon fries” mix 🤔

So back in 1994 when Club 53 opened its doors, those that know me will remember that I was the resident DJ in the back room. The back room was where all the dance music lovers and club heads would hang out.

With the amount of trance tracks being released on a daily basis the Club 53 regulars soon started requesting for more trance to be played. And so… the trance choons landed in Club 53 in all their vocal, uplifting, hedonistic glory.

So for volume 1 of the ‘90’s to 00’s Trance Classics mini mash up mix’ I’ve picked a handful of mid 90’s to early 00’s tracks that had the ‘Zoo’ crew bouncing till the early hours 😊

DJ PINKY CLUB 53 CLASSIC 90'S & EARLY 00’s TRANCE MINI MASH UP MIX VOL 3

So what’s behind this mix then…

Well, a couple of months ago whilst on holiday in Lanzarote, I stumbled into a really chilled out bar where they served some seriously nice cocktails that you could sup whilst over looking the amazing view of the North Atlantic Ocean. As nice as the bar was with its beautiful views and surroundings, the music that was being played was like nothing I’d really heard before. 

It had a funky house style vibe but was chilled out, yet at the same time you felt like you couldn’t help but want to dance to it. Some of the choons being played were also songs that aren’t really dance songs, yet the beat and the bass lines turned these tracks into something different. The tracks were remixes of artists like Kate Bush, INXS, Chic, Fleetwood Mac, Sydney Youngblood and even Nalin and Kane.

When I asked what the style or genre was, I was told… ‘Nu Disco or Discotized’ (if that’s a real thing? Answers on a postcard 😜).

So, for this new ‘Discotized & Funked Up’ mix (which is something different from me) I’ve picked a handful of my favourite tracks I heard in the bar and added a Pinky twist.

CLUB 53 FUNKY HOUSE 90'S & 00'S CLASSICS MINI MASH UP MIX VOL 4

So the other night I’m going through a load of old vinyl and CDs which proper took me on a trip down memory lane. The further back I went the more the memories came flooding back. Two minutes later, I stuck on ‘Belfast’ by the Orbital, pressed record and what followed (which started as a chilled choons mix) turned into an eclectic mash up of chilled, indie, acid, bleeps, piano, jackin and house choonage mash up mix. Fellow DJs will hopefully get what I mean when I say every track I was digging out seemed to be just perfect to mix into the previous track, no matter what the genre, hence the title of the mix 😉

I was about ten years old when some of the tracks in this mix came out, I won’t lie, they won’t be everybody’s cup of tea, but to me, some of these tracks were the start of my journey into DJing which involved my weekly trips on the bus to Liverpool, Manchester, Blackburn, Halifax and Burnley to get my hands on the twelve inch versions for me to mix.

The mix starts with the amazing chilled ‘Belfast’, mixes into ‘The Beloved’ and soon slides into bleeps and squelchy acid tones from the likes of ‘Unique 3’, ‘Westbam’, ‘Fast Eddie’, L.F.O.’ and ‘V.I.M’. The likes of ‘Kid Unknown’, ‘Young MC’ and ‘Blapps Posse’ even make an appearance before some piano and old skool classics drop in resulting in a finale of late 80’s jackin house and Chicago house. 

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did playing them originally, some as long as 38 years ago 😊

THAT 80’s & 90's 'CHILLED INDIE ACID BLEEPS PIANO JACKIN HOUSE' MASH UP MIX

When I started DJing at the early age of 11, I was DJing for local youth clubs and family parties and the music was your typical youth club/family songs, loads of 80’s pop, 70’s disco and funk, Motown and 60’s songs for the older end. 

But then one Sunday night in 1988, as I was taping and listening to the top 40 on radio 1, a song played that grabbed my attention and led me down a dance music rabbit hole. I was 13 years old and from that Sunday, I made it my mission to get my hands on as many acid house, rave, techno, old skool and Italian house records from the scenes as I could.

The movement had arrived and I wanted to be involved.

For volume 12 I’m taking it straight back to the early classics.

I hope this mini mash up brings back some great memories of the late 80’s to early 90’s dance music scene for you as it did for me the first time I played them 😊

DJ PINKY (C) - OLD SKOOL 91 HARDCORE MINI MASH UP MIX VOL 12

By the middle to the back end of the 90’s a new style of music had gripped the nation, creating a new holiday destination in Ayia Napa along the way, which exploded annually with clubbers making the pilgrimage to it year after year to take in this new sound and music movement, ‘UK Garage’ and ‘Speed Garage’ had arrived.

Some people couldn’t afford the annual pilgrimage to Ayia Napa, so they stayed in the UK and embraced the UK Garage scene in venues around the country. I was DJing four to five nights a week throughout the North West, sometimes as far down as Birmingham, but it didn’t matter where I worked, UK Garage was always being requested.

The style of garage music I played was the more vocal side of the genre, as some of the stuff was seriously heavy and hardcore, personally I tried to keep away from it. 

For this new mini mashup mix I’m taking it back to the absolute garage classics, even if you were never a big fan of the genre, you’ll of heard every single track in this mix, the choons were all mid 90’s to early 00’s bangers.

I hope this mini mash up brings back some great memories of the ‘UK Garage’ scene for you 😊

DJ PINKY (C) - 90’S TO EARLY 00’S - OLD SKOOL GARAGE MINI MASH UP MIX VOL 1

I started DJing at the early age of 11 for local youth clubs and family parties. In 1988 as I turned 13 the acid house/rave/old skool movement arrived which I fell in love with straight away…

By the age of 15 I was DJing in bars and clubs all over the UK, five nights a week throughout the North West, as far down as Brighton, up to Scarborough, a couple of guest spots in Magaluf and of course my home town of Burnley…

Throughout my journey in DJing I’ve worked alongside some amazing people, fantastic bands and artists as well as some brilliant head lining DJ’s who to this day it was always a pleasure to work with 😊

When it came to the music, wether it was commercial dance, squelchy acid loops, old skool anthems, hedonistic piano drops, phat donk or bounce tracks, club classics or uplifting vocal house breaks… It was always amazing to see the crowds reaction and feel the love as one!
