Based in Manchester, Pod Imiya plays a mix of jungle and drum n bass styles from all eras, dropping in hardcore, IDM and sped-up electro. Pod Imiya’s sets are usually centred around rough breaks with dark but uplifting selection.

Starting out as a regular DJ at Hit & Run, she quickly went on to play at nights across the UK such as Rupture, License to Jungle, Chicken Shop Events and Sheffield-based night Anomalies, which showcases the wonkier side of 170bpm.

Episode 482 brings us a mix from Swedish dj/producer, Coral, who had release on Bukva Sound come out not too long ago, his tune received some remix love from Coco Bryce and Mysmiakos!

Coral's mix starts out pretty rowdy with some tearing amens, quickly switching up into some rollers, then the mix makes its way through hardcore, atmospheric, footwork, and more! So much variety in this mix, filled with forthcoming exclusives and Coral's own productions! This mix is such a VIBE! Coral crushed this one!

Let's meet our dj for episode 482, with our 3 questions section:

1.What Dj gigs or releases do you coming up?

I've got a new release coming up on Bukva Sound again. Hopefully (end of) this year, if the vinyl factory gods are smiling upon us. For the past few years I've mostly been keeping busy with production. So I have tons of music in need of release. Hopefully the release tempo will be increasing soon. 

2. Who was your biggest influence as a Dj/producer?

There are so many producers/composers that have had an impact me, so hard to mention just one. But I guess the early years of Roni Size/Reprazent, 90's Goldie, Reinforced/4 Hero, but also classical composers such as Ennio Morricone and synth virtuoso Vangelis, cool cats like DJ Krush, DJ Shadow, all types of hiphop from Wu-Tang Clan and Gang Starr to Dilla and Madlib, a ton of 90's house music, the Belleville three, the list goes on. Been a big fan of Lone and Shed for these past 10-12 years. And at the moment I'm listening to a lot of Dead Man's Chest, Tim Reaper. Whether it be music or film, most of my inspiration comes from the 90's or looks/sounds like the 90's. And as you might understand from the above mentioned, style or genre doesn't really matter.

3. What is your favorite vacation spot?

I've been to quite a few places in the world. Been to something like 30+ countries. Traveled around the world once. And even so, I still love going back to my roots. I was born here in Sweden but my family is originally Bosnian. As a kid I'd travel to the Balkans every summer. And now me and my wife recently found this gem in the Adriatic Sea called Vis Island, in Croatia. Magical! Though I think I can almost say that vacationing in Croatia, generally speaking, is my absolute favourite. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I was biased.

Coral - Everyday Junglist Podcast-Episode 482

Like a lot of prominent drum & bass producers, Duncan Busto’s story begins in the late ‘80s when he was a little more besotted with hip hop. Whilst spending his time in record shops stocking up on import 12”s, he was convinced by a friend to make the move from music collector to disc jockey and a flourishing fleet of DJ bookings followed in the wake of that decision. After acid house had fully bloomed in London, chance encounters, serendipity and the influence of Commercial Suicide boss, Klute and the seminal techno outfit, Ubik, led to the Ipswich based Busto putting together the basics of a home studio in which he started making his own take on the sorts of electronic music he was playing out. 

Now Busto’s firmly ingrained as one of drum & bass’ old guard. Having played around the world and released music on a long list of coveted d&b labels like Shogun Audio, Violence, Metalheadz, CIA and Renegade Hardware he’s reportedly just reopened the doors to his own labels, Phantom Audio, which he began back in 1998 alongside his kindred producer, Digital and his own solo venture, Inneractive. Having recently returned to the UK from a five year stint in the USA, 2015 is already looking like a new chapter for Busto who’s already cued up releases on a raft of labels including Doc Scott’s 31 Records, Metalheadz and Warm Communications, so we’re pleased to be welcoming him back with open arms this Friday (20th February) where he’ll play alongside DJ Marky and Lenzman in the Innerground hosted Room Two. 

With all that in mind, Busto took the time to make us a mixtape that proves to all and sundry that his selections are just as acute as they ever were, putting together something special as a precursor to his set this Friday…
