Jane and Chris talk to leading Beatles expert Mark Lewisohn at his archive about the Beatles introduction to copyright and the ways in which they changed the music industry in the 1960s.

Mark (https://www.marklewisohn.net/) is the author of multiple best selling books on the Beatles, the most recent of which is 2013's Tune In, the first volume in the three part definitive history of the band.

Mark generously gave us the benefit of his time and expertise and guided us through some of the copyright infringement cases associated with the Beatles' music as well as their approach to parody requests.

Copyright Waffle Episode 21 Cory Doctorow

In this episode our guest, Drew Whitworth (University of Manchester), chats to Josh Rodda about the remote island of Saint Helena. Perhaps best known as the venue for Napoleon's exile, Saint Helena has a deeper history of commercial governance and scientific research, and the arrival of high-speed internet is about to have lasting effects on its consumption and production of information. Drew has been conducting research into the island's current information literacy practices, and into the inhabitants' preparations (and expectations) for the coming acceleration of communications technology.

Raag Bhairavi (Hindi: भैरबी) (Urdu: بھیرویں‎) is a Hindustani Classical heptatonic (Sampurna) Raag of Bhairavi Thaat. Traditionally it is a morning raga. In modern times, at least in Khyal Gayaki, it is usually performed as the concluding (finale) piece in concerts. It is the defining raga of its own Thaat.
Carnatic music has a Bhairavi raga which is quite different from the Hindustani raga.
Hanumatodi in Carnatic music has the same scale as the Bhairavi in Hindustani music.
