Coming from a broken home with a single mom raising him and his brother, life was hard for his family and when he found fitness it became his escape.  Training begins with body types, which of the 3 are you?  Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph, focus on your body type to begin with.  At 21 with the help of his wrestling coach, Dimitri was able to compete in his first show and he won.  From there he worked in fitness clubs, good and bad ones, mostly bad ones, he saw where they could improve and how to improve.  With the guidance of a mentor, Dimitri left the corporate life, and he took a chance and went on his own and built Pure Motivation Fitness, that was 15 years ago.

Dimitri discusses customizing your fitness goals to your body type and truly understand why he is going to suggest eating habits, exercise techniques, weight training to suit your body.  Dimitri wants to be your coach; everyone needs a coach to make sure you are held accountable to your health and fitness goals.  3 Key principles, Mindset, Training and Nutrition last.  Dimitri discusses our vices, he is no saint and none of us are, we have our demons for food and alcohol, we need to keep these vices in check, and he suggests starting with the training so you can better understand the affects to your body. We discuss vitamins and understanding the key ones to boost your bodies levels.  Working on behavior habits instead of outcome goals, Dimitri isn’t here to preach, he’s here to help you change your life for the better, loosing body fat adds years of extra life.  It’s simply about taking bad habits and placing good habits in front of it, that is how you slowly change your day-to-day events, such as smoking.  Accept, Acknowledge and Advance, 3 counts of accountability.  Tim Lyons once taught Dimitri, “embrace the suck” Covid happened, and he had to embrace the suck to get over it.

Dimitri shares some great insight into the medical industry and how to handle your doctor, your injuries, and avoiding pharmaceutical assistance.  Here in Canada, we have the right to ask for a 2nd or 3rd and we have the right to ask for ultrasounds, x-rays and MRI’s, we need to see what the problem is so we can figure out the best course of action because a pill may not always be best option for you.  Dimitri pulls out the calculator and shows you how you can calculate the potential to have a heart attack or stroke based on your current state of resting heart rate, this will open you eyes wide.  Dimitri has done an amazing job motivating, educating and empowering people and now it’s time for Tradespeople to take back their lives.

What a show!  Are you easily offended by the truth about construction, then this show is for you because you need to be woken up about the realties in construction and Frank, Joey and Jay say it as it is and TCL welcomes this fresh breath of air, we refuse to ever be censored!!

He recently had a jobsite accident; a split second can change your life.  We want to wish him the best, we wish him a lot of hope to recover and your fellow tradebrothers and tradesisters are here to support you brother, all the best JD.

Let’s begin, 45 years of construction experience, let that sink in, 1977 is when it all began, Frank is a very young 59, will soon be 60 and he credits his kids and the young trades for giving him his second wind, he’s back at it and loves it.  He’s going to share so much on this show, you don’t want to miss everything he has to offer.  Joey at a very young age, 7, would go to work with his Dad and learn how to do things properly.  Jay was taught by his Dad, a few years older than Frank, Jay was brought into the mix by a negative situation where Jay was the saving grace and the 3 of them never looked back.  It has been a while since we have done a tile show and what better tradespeople than the 3 gentlemen on the show today.

Having a show with different generations of trades allows us to discuss how things are today, how they were yesterday and what to expect in the future and everyone here is brutally honest.  First up!  Cleanliness!!  They can’t express how important staying clean, working clean, keeping the site clean, your tools clean, your tiles clean, everything clean, that is the number one lesson for any tradesperson especially tile setter.  We discuss clips and a lot of interesting points are brought up.  Finally, we discuss how important pails are and how so many younger trades will just throw pails out without a construction care in the world, Frank goes as far as labeling his pails, the year he got it, yes, the year and a small “F” somewhere nobody can see and he even goes further and uses wine pails, the ones with the lip so it’s easier to pull apart.  

You will never look at pencils the same way after this show, thank you Frank and I will try this.  Frank should be teaching millennial happiness courses and change the industry mindset one trade at a time.  There is so much you just must listen to this whole show several times. #216 D’lusso Tile OG Frank Dilorenzo, his son Joey and the new kid Jason Rita from MCM Stone & Tile

Amazing to have the man himself on the show, the man that started Fix It Friend and Handyman Service business that’s been growing ever since he began 6 years ago.   Jeremy opens the show with a first, Praise you by Fatboy Slim, a classic to many and great music from the 90’s.  Thank you, sir, for such a great opener.

One with the show, Fix It Friend with Jeremy Ross next level of Handyman Services.  6 years in construction after studying and working in the mechanical engineer field, he had enough of the office environment and wanted to get his hands dirty, that is how Fix It Friend began.  Of course, Jeremy had some concerns, lack of confidence if he would be accepted into the industry and would establish tradespeople share, we all went through that, that’s the beauty of construction, it truly is a community, and we want to help others.  Ultimately every older tradesperson knows they need to pass on these lessons because there are more leaving then entering this industry.  

Jeremy and his right-hand person Jessica have perfected the Fix It Friend system, from people leaving an inquiry on the website, submitting a scope of work, assessing things, arriving on site and fixing it for them.  Most clients are just so happy to have someone there to take care of things.  At times there could be a little bit of tension with significant others who either tried to fix it or has no idea how to fix it but Jeremy understands how to involved the clients enough that it becomes a collaborative effort.  Over the years Jeremy has built a solid list of tradespeople and other professionals that he can reach out to get 2nd opinion and tradespeople are always willing to share with him, adding more value to his business and his clients.

Passion vs Profit comes up again, it’s been gaining a lot of interest and Jeremy brings up some amazing points, it’s an important conversation that everyone in this industry should be having on a daily basis.  

About a year into Fit It Friend Jeremy had the passion and desire for a workshop, and he came across an opportunity, he called it The Hub TO.  Jeremy came across a 6000 sq ft abandoned unit and found the owner, worked out a deal to lease it, he spilt up the place into 11 separate units for a community of makers, a woodworker, a hairdresser, an actor and so on.  He’s been able to fill 10 of the 11 units and he’s created something that’s so valuable to everyone in our industry and I suggested you should open another, open it in the west end.  What an amazing idea.  Towards the end of the show the conversation gets very interesting, we discuss the next generation, parenting failing on making construction an attractive career choice, the construction cap when it comes to making money, immigrants from the 60’s to today providing for their big families, where homes, kids futures, cars, weddings were all paid for by hardworking tradespeople.

#233 Fix It Friend the Man Myth Legend Jeremy Ross is changing the the Handyman Service industry

Amazing to have John on the show talking the fencing business for the past 50 years, from humble beginnings as an immigrant with his grandfather, working on smaller residential projects to full scale commercial and industrial projects of today.  So much to discuss on this show, but first up, we discuss the economy and I must say, it is refreshing to hear from a 26 year old like John that feels there is something bad coming our way, he has heard the stories from his Dad, from his GrandDad from the past, how difficult it was to get work during those lean years, John offers up a lot of great insight.

We have a great conversation about welding and the skill attached.  John shares the proper footings for his posts, from resi, to commercial to industrial, sometimes they are working with posts that are 3/8” thick steel for security purposes behind correctional institutions.  John brings up so many great points behind profit and understanding your profit margins and what you and your business is really making because most tradespeople don’t really know, they just assume they are making money. Right now John is keeping the business lean because he knows to be safe than sorry.  

John shares a number of stories on how is Dad built the business with relationships, being knowledgeable on the job site has an advantage, communicating with engineers and architects, and finally coming to the conclusion that everything works on paper but never on the jobsite, that is where the skills come to play.  So many products have been developed by tradespeople handling things on site, figuring how to make things better, more efficient, boots on the ground is incredibly valuable, don’t ever forget that.  We finally get a chance to discuss locates and job site duties.  We end the show discussing the why of construction, understand the why, when your business isn’t what it used to be, go back to the why, when you have those bad days, bad clients, go back to the why, always go back to the why of construction.
