A bit on this field recording: The Kauaʻi ʻōʻō or ʻōʻōʻāʻā was the last member of the Mohoidae family of birds from the islands of Hawaiʻi. The entire family is now extinct.

The bird was endemic to the island of Kauaʻi. It was common in the subtropical forests of the island until the early twentieth century, when its decline began. It was last seen in 1985, and last heard in 1987. The causes of its extinction include the introduction of predators, mosquito-borne diseases, and habitat destruction.

"Europa" the true story of Colette Soc and her journey into the icy depths of Jupiter’s moon and the discovery of life in our solar system is a documentary film co-produced by The BBC and Canal+ and narrated by Academy and BAFTA award-winning actress Ronan Arnault-Jones.  

After space-probe flybys, the first occurring in the early 1970s and lasting until the mid-21st century, we concluded the autonomous exploration of Jupiter’s moon Europa in 2122 by boring into its icy crust. What followed was a discovery of both organic molecules and a veritable soup of single-celled organisms which while more complex than bacteria, only vaguely resembled zooplankton.  In 2143 the Europa Station had established a permanent and sterile water lock on the surface and began a series of increasingly audacious manned dives into the icy depths of Europa. These first dives were all conducted by pioneering aquanaut Colette Sok. The documentary follows her journey into the moon’s dangerous and icy depths.

Europa director Jose Smalls and music supervisor Jason Royce approached Gravity, Inc. and requested that the duo compose the film score. When asked why he wished to work with the duo, Royce replied, "How could you not at least go to those guys?"

Presented on vinyl for the first time, the soundtrack is remastered by Emmy Award winning engineer Alexis Martin.
