Companion is proud to announce ‘Chances’, the debut album from Naarm based trio Acopia, due for release on the 18th March 2022. 

Acopia is the collaborative project of Kate Durman (Purient), Lachlan McGeehan (Liluzu) and Morgan Wright; an intimate excursion of ultra-emotive dream pop. 
 
The title track and first single, 'Chances', is available on all platforms from 28th January 2022. It’s a wash of breathy vocals and brooding bass that slides effortlessly into muted breaks - an ethereal late summer lullaby.

Ambient Computing, the new three-track EP from At Capacity, is a crisp new venture filled with bustling, ethereal house.

Haunting pitches and stepping rhythm contrast to create a trance-inducing melody on the first track, Developer’s Dream. If you close your eyes you can almost see coloured lights shooting through a smoky haze.

On the second track End Point, sheeting synths and gently fractured vocals drift over two-step percussion in a spaced-out exhibition of ebb and flow.

The EP’s title track carries on the energy with cantered drums, popping synths and ghoulish backing. A sustained pull-back releases tension then rebuilds it before the track blooms with renewed vigour. It stays strong and finishes strong to round out a solid composition made to be felt as much as heard.

Never Been is the first collaborative release by Loradeniz and Interstellar Funk, who produced the EP at a Volkshotel artist residency in Amsterdam, in 2021. The record examines the interplay of synthetic melodies and Loradeniz’s vocals, which are underpinned by meticulously crafted rhythms. Steeped in melancholy, many of the tracks on Never Been evoke the essence of departure, complex emotions and fading memories.

‘Freefall’ – which has already been played by DJs last summer – opens with a solid bassline and crystalline melodies. An urgent kick and racing hi-hats intensify the composition, while the dominant topline brings to mind a rapturous dance at twilight. An allegory of communication, ‘Hidden Tongue’ has Loradeniz pronouncing splintered vowels, like a malfunctioning public service recording, over a reverberated snare, deep kick and repeating glockenspiel figure.

‘Fly Me In’ begins with an arpeggiated melody, before slowly combining multiple electric accents and delicate vocals with spoken word passages exploring notions of escape. The heroic overtones of ‘Situational Lullaby’ develop subtly with layers of synths reminiscent of mid-90s soundtracks, while ‘Lurking Orange’ closes the release with its listless refrain and snake-like percussion.

N’to returns to Hungry Music with yet another eclectic excursion into his illustrious world of wobbly, pulsating frequencies, arpeggiated layers of dark sounds and comforting thick grooves.

N’to’s tracks evolve and transform over time. “The Hound” is a fine example with its capacious and uncanny arrangement and meticulous layering of filters and sounds. It is a shadowy, slow-burning melodic techno track built on slippery hats and shakers.

“The Hound” is an eloquent and accomplished release that once again shows that N’to is a true sensei of uncommon sounds and unearthly vibes.
