These tracks were created for a live production of my musical Alice! which was performed at the Court Theatre in Christchurch, New Zealand for its summer season (late November to early February) a few years ago. Some tracks are incidental instrumentals; a couple are accompaniments to sung performances by the actors.

This is the sixth of seven songs and also the title song of a cycle called "Red Sky in the Morning" for mezzo-soprano, French horn and piano. The vocal range is reasonably suitable for other voice types from baritone to soprano. The poems are by New Zealand poet, John Summers.

Red Sky in the Morning

HAKA! is a short work for orchestra that celebrates New Zealand's indigenous Maori cultural ritual called the Haka. The original style of the Haka, ususlly performed by Maori warriors to challenge and welcome visitors, is a fervent vocal and physical dance. It's known around the world a the challenge that opens every test match played by New Zealand's national rugby team, the All Blacks.

The original performance in the Geat Hall at the Christchurch Arts Centre in New Zealand drew a considerable and enthusiastic response from the audience and the press.

Tony Ryan is a conductor, composer, educator, reviewer, broadcaster and adjudicator. As a teacher he led the performing arts at Linwood College in Christchurch, New Zealand, for more than thirty years before spending several years working in Mombasa (Kenya) and Singapore.
Since returning to New Zealand in 2017, Tony has worked as a regular conductor of Resonance Ensemble, conductor of the Christchurch School of Music Sinfonia and conductor of the Christchurch Schools Music Festival Orchestra. 
Tony’s most recent compositions were performed by Resonance Ensemble, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, and orchestras from the Christchurch School of Music.
