Ukrainian DJ, producer and cyberpunk RAAVEL debuts on DJ MELL G’s imprint, JUICY GANG RECORDS. Enter INSECT REPLICANT, a 4-track, broken-beat-meets-electro EP that conveys RAAVEL’s crunchy vibe to a tee. 

‘AYAYAY’ blends a distorted vocal with a nasty synthline and 2-step kickdrums, creating a futuristic sound that only RAAVEL knows how to pen. An EBM-flavoured snythline dominates on ‘BLATZER’ while zappy sound FX cut through the atmosphere—a dirty jam made for a basement rave situation. The title tune ‘INSECT REPLICANT’ is a proper banger. At 144 BPM, an acid bassline, snappy percussion, and staccato synth notes evoke tension, but it still maintains a club-driven feel. The closing tune ‘WAKALAKA’ merges electronica and electro, as a raw drum pattern punctuates each bar and provokes anarchistic energy. One for the die-hard punks of this world.  

Following releases on LAP and mystictrax, INSECT REPLICANT marks another upward step in RAAVEL’s trajectory, with his anomalous sound reflecting the always-evolving aesthetic of JUICY GANG RECORDS.

The rain came down hard that day, he remembered it so clearly as if it were just yesterday. Perhaps it was down to him blocking out the severity of what played out back then, he'd tried hard to erase it from his memory but sometimes things triggered the emotions to come flooding back. Rather he tried his best to focus on the dull and mundane parts of the experience - the stack of dirty dishes piled on the kitchen side, the tough stain that was smeared across the couch, the smell of burning plastic clogging up his nostrils...

Hamburg artists DJ Mell G launched her Juicy Gang Records imprint at the end of 2021, at first as a space for her own music solo and alongside DJ Fuckoff, and then more recently to showcase like-minded genre bending artists who share her sonic ethos. She follows up a VA with the first artist EP from someone other than her: a four-track release from Ukrainian DJ, producer and cyberpunk RAAVEL. INSECT REPLICANT is crunchy and full throttle, matching electro, EBM and broken beat techno, approached with a punk attitude.

25 years ago Billy Nasty launched Electrix Records to shine a light on quality Electro releases for the floor. The label has gone on to release music from the likes of Zeta Reticula (a.k.a. Umek), Carl Finlow / Silicon Scally, The Advent, RadioNasty, London Modular and many more. Now after a 5 year hiatus Electrix returns for this momentous anniversary with the "I Am Evil" EP by AXIOMATIZE.

AXIOMATIZE is a new collaboration between Orson Bramley – the remaining member of long running cult Electro act Transparent Sound and James Preston a.k.a. DJ Manipulate of the infamous international scratch act, Skratchlords. The formation of AXIOMATIZE has the sole purpose of breaking down the boundaries that the stagnant, non-progressive dance music scene is dominated by, as they set to deliver a non-linear electro sound of the unreachable future.

Up first is the blistering "Leviatron" with its corrugated drum patterns, snappy hits and computer circuitry in meltdown, delivering a dystopian vibe. "I Am Evil (Extended Mix)" is dark and brooding with a mischievous low end prowling beneath the drums and talkbox vocals. Meanwhile, the closer, "Turbo Specs" is a crisp and bouncy cut with nimble low end and meticulous drum designs.

AXIOMATIZE – the process of reducing a system to basic truths.
