' Simultane ' for string quartet

While it is not a written rule or a standard to be followed, composers generally treat a string quartet in a highly polyphonic and individual manner. When I started composing my piece, I was thinking about different concepts and I decided to create a piece by adopting the exact opposite of this ‘’most popular’’ perspective. In this context, I aimed to use the string quartet as a single body, a single voice, a block, an instrument and generally referred to as ‘’Simultane’’ (which means ‘’Simultaneous’’ in English). Although this structure occasionally deviates to add different colors to the music, the main idea remains the overarching concept throughout the piece.

Her ne kadar yazılı bir kural, uyulması gereken bir standart veya her zaman gördüğümüz bir durum olmasa da, besteciler genellikle yaylı çalgılar dörtlüsünü son derece çok sesli ve bireysel bir şekilde ele alırlar. Eserimi bestelemeye başladığımda farklı kavramlar üzerine düşünüyordum ve bu "en popüler" bakış açısının tam tersini benimseyerek bir eser üretmeye karar verdim. Bu bağlamda yaylı çalgılar dörtlüsünü tek bir vücut, tek bir ses, bir blok, vb. olarak kullanmayı amaçladım ve genel olarak ''Simultane'' olarak adlandırdım. Her ne kadar bu yapıdan zaman zaman müziğe farklı renkler katmak için sapılsa da, ana fikir eser boyunca ana kavram/anlayış olarak kalmaktadır.

Originally composed for the 'X St. Petersburg International New Music Festival - reMusik.org’ and MolOt Ensemble, the piece premiered in St. Petersburg/Russia in June 2023.

Recording is from the Swiss premiere of the piece in Lucerne/Switzerland at the HSLU Hochschule Luzern - Blackbox Kosmos as part of the Contemporary Music Week by the Dissolution Ensemble on the 23rd of February 2024.

Ege Sayar - Dip

‘Ala’ for flute, clarinet, percussion, piano, 2 violins, viola and cello.

The piece is part of an ensemble project led by Sarah Nemtsov at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. It was composed for a newly created ensemble named Ensemble für Neue Musik der Universität Mozarteum conducted by Kai Röhrig and premiered on 24th of May 2024 in Solitär Mozarteum.

'Ala' is a Turkish word that can be translated into English as 'a color consisting of a mixture of several colors, mixed color'.

Ege Sayar - Ala

Ege Sayar is a Turkish composer born in 1998. His passion for music and composition ignited in his early childhood, and he has since demonstrated unwavering dedication to exploring a diverse range of musical genres.

Ege graduated with honors from his bachelor's degree in classical music composition at the HKU Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands. He studied with Jeroen D'Hoe and Caroline Ansink, supported by a talent grant. Additionally, he completed an Erasmus exchange semester at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in Germany, studying with Fredrik Schwenk. Currently, Ege is pursuing his master's at Universität Mozarteum Salzburg in Austria with Sarah Nemtsov. He holds a merit scholarship and the position of assistant student of the Universität Mozarteum Composition Department.

Over the past years, Ege has actively participated in various festivals, workshops, and masterclasses alongside renowned composers. His compositions have graced the stages of prestigious international festivals and events. He has also won several competitions and reached the finalist stage in others. Ege has received significant commissions, and he is currently engaged in meetings for further opportunities.

His music has received premieres and performances in Türkiye, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, England, Cyprus, Russia, Azerbaijan, China, Hong-Kong, Australia, United States, Canada.

The concepts he seeks to explore in his music may vary. Rather than adhering to a specific musical style, he strives to draw inspiration from every era and genre, spanning from the past to the present.
