This is part one of our interview with Dr. David Burns. 

Dr. Burns is an adjunct Clinical Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where he is involved in research and teaching. 

He has received numerous awards, including the A. E. Bennett Award for his research on brain chemistry, the Distinguished Contribution to Psychology through the Media Award, and the Outstanding Contributions Award from the National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists. 

In part one, Dr. Burns speaks with Dr. Hoye about his career as a psychiatrist starting as one of the preeminent researchers of serotonin and depression, and his subsequent rejection of medication management and turning to a behavioral health mode of working with patient through psychotherapy.  We also discuss his work as one of the founders of the school of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and his work with outcomes studies in psychotherapy.

Narcissistic Abuse in Relationships with Abby Lev, Psy.D.

The Performing Art of Therapy with Mark O'Connell, LCSW

It came to our attention a few weeks ago that Dr. Dan Brown had passed away.  Dan has had a huge impact on psychology and hypnosis over the past three decades.  His books, include Memory, Trauma Treatment and the Law, Attachment Disturbances in Adults: Treatment for Comprehensive Repair, and Pointing Out the Great Way: The Stages of Meditation in the Mahamudra Tradition. These titles, among others of his, are classics in psychology and Buddhist meditation traditions.  They also point out Dan’s immense grasp of both the Western psychological traditions, mind-body practices, and eastern meditation.

In episode 10 of the Chicago Psychology Podcast, Dr. John Mohl, Ph.D. joins Kyle & Scott discuss the history and current state of hypnosis.  John is an educator and research psychologist, and the current president of APA's Division 30, the Division of Psychological Hypnosis.  John talks about his path to becoming a psychologist,  explains the phenomena of hypnosis, it's history and its body of research, and the importance in the field of psychology.  

To that end, we  ask the question:  "Just what is hypnosis?"  The conversation goes to great lengths to answer this and separates myths from facts.  It is a heady chat, so get ready to dive deep into hypnotic history and phenomena.  

Dr. Mohl is an educator as well as a psychologist and researcher.  He gives his opinion about the recent decision of the College Board to remove hypnosis from their standards for the teaching of psychology at the high school, and what this means for the teaching of psychology on a college level as well.

On this episode of the Chicago Psychology Podcast, Dr. Hoye speaks with Dr. George Greer, the president of the Heffter Research Institute.&nbsp; The Heffter Institute has been at the forefront of research into psychedelic medicines for treating addiction and depression.&nbsp; Dr. Greer is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Past President of the Psychiatric Medical Association of New Mexico. He was also the Clinical Director of Mental Health Services for the New Mexico Corrections Department during the 1990s. He was the Medical Director of the Heffter Research Institute from 1998 to 2017 when he became President.
