YOUR HOUSE is a song written for myself and all those who could never connect with "the parent."  Being born on a farm in the midwest, and being a creative type, they just didn't know how to handle me.  Don't get me wrong, my father was a tremendous provider, we never did without any of the necessities. He worked extremely hard to take care of us and our mom.  I will never take that from him.   When I wanted to take piano lessons, he agreed to buy me a piano.  The truck came one day, I walked on the back of the truck and chose from the two or three that were there.  Dad bought me this and I will eternally be grateful.  

However, he didn't much want to have anything much to do with me about listening to me play.  Men of that generation had a hard time saying, "I Love you," verbally and I sure would have loved to have heard this from him, but I never did.  Mom was supportive, but Grandma Jackson was my gem !!  She knew exactly how to handle me, take care of me, make me feel safe and loved, all the time, no matter what.  

When I got up in the mornings (non-school days) I couldn't wait to go to her house, which was just down the hill and across the bridge over the drainage ditch between two fields.  It was my heaven on earth !!  Anything I needed help with, Grandma was always there.  She would sneak me money for doing chores for her.  When I wanted a tool belt like the men remodeling our house she got out material and made me one to tie around my waist.  When I wanted to play BATMAN AND ROBIN, she found enough twine and a hook to put on the end of it so that I could scale up the side of buildings.  Although, she sent me to the woods to do my pretending so I could never hurt anyone or anything. We cooked, baked, made quilt pieces....I could go on and on.  

At night in the summer her bedroom window was on the side of her house and just up the hill was mine.  With my piano in my bedroom I would play at night and she would listen to me play.  Aahhh, the memories.  

Anyway, this new song is for my grandma....Love you, see you again someday!!

Music…the expression of the soul. I was shaped by my early years growing up on a farm in the Midwest where boys who weren’t “rough and tumble” weren’t thought much of. Dad wanted someone to fish and hunt with. Ha ha, he got me. Found what he wanted in my brother and I just spent most of my time making music in church. Gifted creative boy, I was. Married young, wife got sick with kidney failure in the beginning stages of my attempt into the professional music world. After playing a Sunday night songwriter showcase at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville and a road gig offer by a music row exec, I had to pull in the reins of my venture to focus on my family, raise my young sons and live a normal life. Kidney failure and 2 transplants costs a lot of money. Was blessed to have enjoyable work, but I had to work a lot to cover all the mounting medical bills. Life was not a party, but we got by. She passed in 2013. I grieved pretty deep.

By this time both my sons had successful careers and families of their own. I re-married in 2015 and the new beautiful one began pushing me to write and record again. With some help from some young friends from work I began to try again. The business has changed in 30 years, but I figured, why not ! I’m putting my 57 years of love, laughs, hurts, rejections and triumphs into song. Maybe I can say something that touches someone.
