If you’ve been with someone long enough, you start to know the predictability of your arguments. This is song is about that sense of impending dread that you feel when you know you’ve said the wrong thing. The word or phrase that triggers past trauma or pushes the right buttons that sends a heated “discussion” into an all-out fight. I wrote it with the idea that relationships are like on-going construction, where you need solid ground for a foundation, but you can easily tear down all that you built together in an instant. And that you have to start over, but often times you feel helpless to fix it, because you don't have the right tools (mental, emotional etc.). Its a hopelessly hopeful situation

This song is about the true story of a highly awarded combat veteran, struggling with mental illness, who returned home from war and murdered his girlfriend but doesn’t remember doing it. He’s currently serving a life sentence in the Rusk State Hospital for the criminally insane. It’s such a tragedy on so many levels. I used to teach yoga at the VA, and I got to know the young men and women in my class, many of whom were suffering from traumatic brain injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I saw firsthand, the devastation and turmoil it caused in their lives.
I know it's dark, and I would never glamorize the taking of life. But I felt the story needed to be heard and hopefully bring some awareness to PTSD and how important it is for our Veterans to get the help and support they need. Because 22 Veterans commit suicide every day. I’m posting this song on 11/11, Veteran’s Day.
I’d like to thank all those who served, and I pray for peace in their minds and souls.
