There is something about mixing records slightly imperfectly that has always totally inspired and mystified me. Maybe it’s because of the simple fact that sonic dissonance sounds a bit weird and makes us pay attention. But I’ve always felt like there’s a deeper and more fundamental reason that this tension between sounds / tracks / records is so attractive - it’s almost like it reflects the complicated nature of human beings, and the way we operate within the world, constantly fighting and bickering and negotiating things among us, but occasionally finding those sweet spots of harmonious union and togetherness.....

After a little hiatus, Pinguin Society comes with a selection of tracks by Peru from their album called The Prophecies. This was a project new to them, where they tried out different styles and explored new paths, not sounding like what they ever released before. Back in ‘93 it wasn’t exactly understood by the fans of their previous work, but now it seems to have gained relevance again. Previously only released on CD and now compiled on vinyl for the first time for number 003 in the Pinguin catalog.

Opener „Fast Life“ is as huge as it gets: an undercurrent of electro breaks and a giant bass line push the track forward while celestial melodies elegantly provide contrast and relief. Next up is „Somehow I Talk“, a minimal banger not only displaying Desert Sound Colony's tongue-in-cheek humour, but also his incredible inventiveness in the studio. Deceptively simple at first listen, the track reveals an abundance of smart arrangement ideas keeping you locked all the way. The way the vocals twist and bend here is just breathtaking.

„Glixen“ closes the ep featuring Desert Sound Colony’s friend Baby Rollen who helps to steer the track's bouncing funk into deeper realms.
