q. pls introduce yourself

It's Irene (@ip.tello / www.ireneptello.eu). I'm visual/digital artist and designer in my non-free time. I collect blue sky images, round shape objects and early morning light shadows.


q. is there a story behind the mix?

This mix is a very special selection of some meaningful tracks that inspires me and takes me to my own center as an extension of my own energies. These are rare findings in this last years, recreating visual/sound or even physical memory.


q. what’s the best way to enjoy your mix?

Lushful, uncanny and savvy feeling. Probably at some beautiful natural space, when light is falling and the sky seems melting into deep blue/violet tones - A sense of inner peace.


q. describe a favorite object in your living room...

I have many favorite objects as I'm an object fanatic. I would say a blue turquoise feather from a bird that I found traveling around and now I just keep it on a white ceramic vase at my own apartment.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

I’m working at the moment with sound artists/records labels making cover artworks and visuals for new EP releases. Also working on my own projects and some collaborations. Recently I was invited to make an AV liveset with my visuals at La Nature festival in Belgium in a very experimental/ambient atmosphere and it was beautiful.

q. pls introduce yourself

a. as Vlady, I work in cybersecurity. In my non-working hours, I perform under aliases ϙue, dj chlorophyll, am co-curating @biorhythmradio, @ickpakyiv, creating bio installations, and recently formed a project «OO0oϙ0O0O00O» with oa. 

As ϙue, I apply multiple psycho-acoustic techniques to embark a listener on an introspective trip, where two of us seek to explore the concept of ego death and delve into the depths of consciousness through deep listening and self-reflection.


q. is there a story behind the mix?

a. For the last 1.5 years, my main pursuit has been presenting contemporary Ukrainian cultural and musical heritage in Europe. This mixtape is a logical continuation of Sasha Very’s https://soundcloud.com/cminuss/sasha-very-present-ukraine. The main motif is Ukrainian artists, who witnessed firsthand the preciousness of life and the woe of death. The major part of sound material gathered here is songs, tracks, and compositions created during the 2022-2023 full-scale invasion.


q. what's the best way to enjoy your mix?

a. Thinking, appreciating, and developing a sense of care about the joy of “simple” things in your life. 

You may not realise how much your like, comment, Bandcamp purchase, an invitation to make an interview, an invitation to your podcast series, or to record a mix can make an immense difference to someone whose survival and “tomorrow” does not come for granted. Here, I mean any Ukrainian who has not crossed the border since February 24, 2022. 

And if this one-hour overview of the musical landscape sparks within you an interest in Ukrainian underground scene, my goal is accomplished.


q. describe a favorite object in your living room...

a. For the last three months, I had to move places five times, so my living room was always shifting :] 

But I always have my 12-centimeter glass sphere with me. Being an optical filter, it serves as a reminder about the delusional nature of our perception and that experiences are limited — words, visions, smells, touch. Hence, I believe one can only trust their mental images (the language we think and dream in). Which I find funny how easily we, myself included, forget about this basic nature of things. So I carry this physical reminder with me.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)? 

a. There are some. 

A few weeks ago, after a gentle push from our mutual dear friend Frog of Earth, oa and me formed a sound-art duo «ОО0оϙ0О0О00О». Olenka is a muse to me in mysterious ways which I am yet to understand. We are working on songs, remixes and a body-music performance where our brainwaves and body electricity are processed through synths.  

Earlier in June, there was a debut of the OFF-ICKPA stage in Arkaoda Berlin where I played with other Kiiberboreans (s/o to @ecology141): super inter, TIBSLC, and Andriy Kostyukov — coincidentally, the latter two also have released LR mixes (both are strongly recommended to listen next). I worked a lot on this one and planning the next year’s festival edition. 

And since mid-2022, Kharkiv’s @comechelet and I are working on a collab release by exchanging stems via the web. So far, our first finished work has traveled some internet sites — Noods, HÖR, and 3XL. These days, as I am writing answers to this mini-interview, Comechelet is shooting a music video in southern France for our second single.

The project https://soundcloud.com/notmass arises from the desire to experiment harder and darker 
sounds. The interest in this new sound comes straight from the passion for punk and rock music that characterized his childhood as a drummer.
His teens are marked by the characteristic settings and the atmosphere of the clubs of his land, allowing him to collect sounds that would fill and characterize his musical background.
He is resident dj and member of Cura festival collective.
His musical selection ranges from techno to electro crossing broken and hard beats, making his style as eclectic and never defined.

“What was a crucial sound experience in your life?”
''The crucial experience that revolutionized my musical perspective was when I first heard an electronic track. From an early age, I was surrounded by music, my father passed on to me a passion for acoustic drums, which I played from the age of five.
Over the years, I dedicated near-endless time and passion to drumming, but my relationship with it changed when I discovered electronic music, especially the haunting parties in my homeland.
From that moment on, I have never stopped becoming more and more passionate about this music world.''

This is the 108th Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics. These monthly released sessions brings you the best and the most diversity Ambient music can offer. I am very excited for this months session because Karen Vogt is presenting her mix with fresh new music and  dives into atmosphere, nature, chanting and peaceful little sounds that emerge in all tracks that she selected for this occassion.

About:
Karen Vogt is an Australian artist who uses her voice primarily to create atmospheric compositions. Mostly known for her ethereal, shimmering vocals with Australian dream-pop band Heligoland, that she co-founded in 1999 (produced by Robin Guthrie). She is now based in Paris, France and composes experimental and ambient solo works based around improvisation, often manipulating her vocals to add layers of emotional depth to her works. She also has a fortnightly radio show on CAMP where she plays 2 hours of new ambient, electronic and experimental music.
Her mix for September is inspired by the shift in the weather from late Summer to early Autumn. Her intention was to create a soundtrack with which to watch the fading light and feel the temperature drop. The mix includes an exclusive unreleased track from the forthcoming Guentner | Spieth album (out on AFFIN in October) along with a selection of new releases ranging from experimental ambient to pop ambient. Some vocal ambient tracks are included with Vogt's own works, remixes of her work and her GALÁN / VOGT collaboration with Spanish composer Pepo Galán.

Back From the Château Perché Festival, we're glad to share our discovery: Point Rouge.

Point.Rouge started electronic music late in life. He learnt from his experiences through trial and error, composing music like living organisms, creating soundscapes that evolve and never sound exactly the same.
Recording exclusively in live situations, he strives to master chaos and chance. Ambient and glitch, his music is moving increasingly towards the experimental and conceptual.  

This podcast for Trêve called "Anthropocene" is originally written for a live show to be performed in the village of Panossas in November 2023. 
The Anthropocene is the theory of the advent of humans as the main factor of change on Earth. The impact of man surpasses geophysical forces. Creating unprecedented planetary disorders, a new geological era.

Using only sounds from the village of Panossas, this piece attempts to express this idea of man's impact on the environment.
The sounds of nature are gradually transformed, creating a chaos of uncontrollable artifacts.

A Way In 🍂 with Lia T & Echinacea

Sonic storytelling from Glasgow's ambient power duo Somewhere Press. The mix is, according to Caapi and Lizzie Urquhart, a musing on the Divine Feminine, which got me thinking about something James Hillman, archon of all things archetypal, said about the study of Beauty. Apparently (so says James) the ancient root of the word "Aesthetics" comes close to meaning "I breathe in" and the mixes, releases and vibe of Somewhere Press has certainly breathed something beautiful into Glasgow's musical landscape. We hope you enjoy this latest Forecast addition and urge you to keep an eye out for the upcoming "The Blue Hour" compilation coming out soon via Boomkat. Coming from Japan and living in Barcelona the last five years, Kazumi Sakoda is a curious artist who investigates the differences she finds with the soundscapes of her native Tokyo through the sounds she picks up on the streets of Barcelona.

All this material, she transforms it into cassettes that she makes by hand and through a fine use of looping and sampling techniques she recontextualizes into beautiful soundscapes that travel between ambient and experimental music.

She said in El Prat Radio 91.6 FM: "After the pandemic, everything has changed and people are more sensitive than beforehand. The feelings are stronger than before because we know what is the most important thing in life, what to feel. That is why on the same street there is a quite different experience from before the pandemic.”
