Chris aka The Unknown Psychologist fell into electronic music in the middle of the 90s, initially with industrial EBM (Front 242, Cabaret Voltaire…) to the first rave parties and Hard Techno.
After exploring a lot of genres, he's now digging deep, hypnotic and dubby techno.  Every sets of his own is qualitatively selected and built for the journey to be the most immersive possible.

@javiermarimon [VLB52 live] - " Just before the pandemic hit, I moved away from on mega cities and found an abandoned ruin deep in the north of Spain, in the middle of nowhere on a mountain by a river. 

I came alone at the same time the world was closing. In the end, I spent 4 full months here with pretty much zero human contact... the silence was almost painful but also incredibly healing and rewarding.
 
Today, a year later, I really wanted to convey what happened during those days in the village of Vilaboa. The melodies I listened to in the new deep silence around me, and some of the residual noise from inside my head. "

For our sixty-sixth edition of POOLcast we have a submission from Massud Matin for you. Matin has sent us a mix with which he leaves his comfort zone and ventures into new realms of electronic music for the first time.

As we have discussed many times before, POOLcast is a platform to expand the prevailing comfort zones. This is true for all three parties involved, the artists who are given a stage without any genre classifications and are free to experiment or share another facet of their work with others. Furthermore, it is also always an incentive for our listeners to engage with each episode of our podcast series in a new way, loosening up perhaps entrenched listening habits a bit. The third and perhaps most trivial comfort zone to break open again and again is our own, that of the curators of POOLcast. This is where visions of what POOLcast is and should be fed from many different minds. This results in a zone that seems to be pinned down by compromises. Recognizing and admitting this is an important part of everyone's creative life. That's why we are glad to receive submissions that encourage us to leave our one comfort zone. What we want from others, we should always look for in ourselves.

Therefore, we are happy to present you this month with Massud Matin, a POOLcast that fits wonderfully into the current season, is refreshingly lightheartedly curated and brings a flow of optimism that we all surely appreciate.

Massud Matin
Massud Matin is a minimal producer and performer based in the city of Bremen, Germany. His first release came out in 2014 and he made waves with his vinyl only EPs at prominent labels such as Tupiar Records (Romania, 2017), LumièresLaNuit (France, 2018) and Norse Project (UK, 2019). Bold, forward organic rhythms as well as experimental sampling and warm frequencies are part of his signature sounds. For the Year 2021 Massud got together with label chief and artist known as Muninn aka Sugheh Apul to create the Damavand Project which will feature vinyl EPs and digital singles dedicated to the Dub and Roots culture in combination with minimal music production and art form. Damavand is a loving and playful translation of a musical approach dedicated to the pioneer Ruddock Osbourne better known as King Tubby and brings this legacy in music history to another conclusion.
The first limited vinyl only release of the Damavand Series will feature 4 original tracks by Massud Matin and is set to hit stores in a few months.

avtumna loved to accept a second invitation for a 'carte blanche' mix.  The Antwerp based knob twiddler mainly produces ambient drones from his cave and rarely put mixes together. That's exactly why we love to challenge him to do so.  Again, no disappointment at all.  The man has an exquisite taste in music and this one hour contribution is  a reflection that. Again, it feels like velvet to our ears.   Since 2010 he created quite some albums / EPs , mostly self-released.    His latest limited edition release  on Werra Foxma is an absolute beauty. He couldn't entirely hide his excitement and pride when contacting him.   Seems that the price  of the only luxe edition copy left on Discogs skyrocketed to a minimum of 55 euro. A few months ago, we had a nice chat with rising Colombian star Raquel Rivera-Lys aka Adi, about her phenomenal debut album BM14, which was released in December last year via Basic Moves. We fell in love with Adi's eclectic and energetic style that has become her trademark both in-studio and behind the decks.
The mix Adi made for us is an eclectic house extravaganza that features tracks by artists like Doctor Rockit, DJ Mostoles, Launaea, The Orb, Walrus and Portable to name a few. The mix also features a track from the upcoming 'For Playful Manners 01' release - the inaugural release from Basic Moves sub-label that Adi founded with Basic Moves head honcho Michiel Claus aka Walrus.
