In addition to its notable infrastructural projects -- including the Bay Area Rapid Transit system and Saudi Arabia's first aluminum smelter in Ras Al-Khair -- Bechtel Corporation manages and operates the Y-12 National Security Complex, a manufacturing site for US nuclear weapons. Following the first Gulf War in 1991, then-CEO Riley Bechtel was appointed to oversee "reconstruction" in Iraq, and this contract greatly advanced expansion throughout the region. Bechtel's Mene Grande Pipeline (1940) capitalized on oil speculation in Venezuela, contributing to a boom which caused massive environmental devastation and today sits largely abandoned, 2020.” 32:04
