Simphiwe Mkona currently known as Benza Ownstyle by his followers started performing at the age of 17 in the dusty streets of Chris Hani (New Brighton) in Port Elizabeth.
His road to stardom started when he and three friends started a kwaito group called Amafela Ndawonye. They performed in and around Port Elizabeth and even opened for Slikour at Newell High School. Due to lack of motivation the group splited and one member of the group went on to start a group called Deep Sound Crew where he has featured as a vocalist in most of their songs such as Unjani Wena and Shaker.
He then decided to start his solo career after seeing the number of fanbase he has and his performance abilities. Started off by doing dance music/ dubstep (kwaito/house).
He has featured as a vocalist and rapper for artists such as Deep Sound Crew, Zain SA, Trend, Playa, Ice Trill, Giant Feather, Mj Fresh, Lito, Teddy Maxx, and Celeb Hoota.
Has opened and shared the stage with artists such as Naak Musiq, Q Bass, AKA, Heavy K, Cassper Nyovest, DJ Tira, Dj Shimza, Proffesor and Character, Zain SA and Deep Sound Crew to name a few.
Currently Benza Ownstyle is promoting his brand and performing in and around Port Elizabeth as well as working on his EP/MIXTAPE that will feature YOUNGSTA CPT and Tellaman.
