Bio + Larkian + Les Poissons Autistes live au Studio 603 (27 mars 2011)

Fractals are the tiny design cells that are replicated upon themselves in  self-similar patterns to build bigger, more complex forms. They exist in nature, and are used in CGI environment designs. Musically, they might be the 3 or 4 note melodic cell that is expanded to create an intricate melodic form.

That is the idea I began working with when creating soundscapes for visual artist Gabriele Worgitzki's visual installations. Worgitzki employs a camera technique, that she developed, that is akin to ghost writing still pictures in succession to emulate dream-like movement.

This particular track is from a composition that was designed to accompany a visual journey into the Black Forest... a forest, I can personally attest, that has not yet shed its ghost memories of WWII.

Geisterwald

At Sun Ra Arkestra rehearsals, different groups of musicians show up almost every time. Sometimes you're reading thru the chart of another instrument -- transposing on the spot; sometimes you're just working on phrasing of 1 section... for hours, or identifying the wrong notes that were copied onto somebody's part; sometimes Marshall just wants you to start playing... anything! "That's the spirit of today." Marshall enjoys playing spontaneously when cellist Kash Killion is able to be on the East Coast for a rehearsal...You Must Create!
