A fresh collaboration between Balduin (Frankfurt) and Wolfgang Lohr (Berlin) brings us a dizzying release in the ear canals. Electro swing, made famous by E.g. Parov Stelar and Caravan Palace, meets Balkan Beats, Tech House, Deep House and driving Melody Parts that get the circulation going. Here, it has been omitted with the typical sampling from the Roaring 20’s and worked instead with completely own instruments, compositions and arrangements. By the York-born singer Alanna, "Dizzy" really takes off. The melancholic vocals, coupled with the catchy chorus tune, is suitable like a Ferris wheel at the county fair. Supported is the lively track with driving beats and a groovy bassline. Did you ever wonder how it would sound if 1990s party heroes Right Said Fred sang a song by 1930s/1940s dance and film legend Fred Astaire?

We didn’t either. And then we just tried it. The result was mind-blowing.

So we gathered some well-known old hands of the music biz and some promising newcomers to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Fred Astaire’s death with us and record 14 contemporary versions of the old master’s songs:

Captain, this is the Electro Swing answer of the viral Sea Shanty „Wellerman“. The Cape Town based producer and DJ Betty Booom is back with an awesome remix to booom down the sea again! "Soon May the Wellerman Come", also known as "Wellerman" is a well-known whaling song. Originating in New Zealand, the song frequently refers to the "wellermen", supply ships owned by the Weller Brothers. The song was first published in a book of New Zealand folk songs in 1973. The song's content has drawn academic praise as "a genuine cultural expression by exploited workers for whom "sugar and tea and rum" provided a much-needed respite from the drudgery and toil of their daily lives". In 2020 and 2021, versions by British folk music group the Longest Johns and Scottish musician Nathan Evans became unlikely viral hits on the social media site TikTok, leading to a "social media craze" around "sea shanties“! #Wellerman #ElectroSwing #SeaShanty #WellermanRemix
