Augusta AW109S Grand helicopter

The Marais Du Verdier is a rich marshland made up of four former fishponds totalling 120 hectares, with a variety of habitats (reedbeds, bulrushes, salt meadows, ponds, tamarisk groves). This recording captures the intense amphibian chorus after dusk, with many Stripeless Tree Frogs (hyla meridionalis) vocalising.

How much Fun would it be to have the opportunity to record one of the few working B17 "Flying Fortress" planes that are still operational? The sound team from AppleTV's "Masters Of The Air" got to do just that.  They were able put 60 microphones all over the B17, to record every part of it that made a noise.  Then they took those sounds back to the sound editorial team and turned the recordings into to the amazing sound design of the intense air battles featured in the series.  Supervising sound editor Jack Whittaker and re-recording mixers Michael Minkler & Duncan McRae tell us all about the challenges this series presented and the ways they met them.

271 - Recording Explosions with Frank & Charles

Listening with ancient trees.
Starting our journey to this ancient forest at midnight,scrabbling o ver large granite stones and undulating paths.

A night walk in a temperate rain forest in Dartmoor Devon UK.
Close your eyes and take a sonic journey of deep earthly time  with this ancient tree that's been a silent witness to layers of history.

The sounds you here are after a warm day are  tiny popping  that is the sound of water passing through the cells of the xylem tubes and cavitating as it mixes with air on its way upwards.

I have wanted to capture for years what goes on behind the bark of a tree,I spent hours with this ancient trees at night to escape as much human noise as possible.Using highly sensitive contact microphones and hydrophones,handmade pre-amps and probes  to make audible the inner workings of trees. I first heard the moss layers of the bark as it  hydrated and dehydrated  then the rumble of the tree moving and the popping of the water,and the odd plane going past.

This recording captures the electric atmosphere on the streets of Paris during the Men's Cycling Road Race event. I headed to rue de Belleville, knowing that the steep climb would be a fascinating position to watch from. This section was part of a final loop that the athletes had to do twice, before finishing the race on the Pont d’Iéna, a bridge connecting the Jardins du Trocadéro and the Eiffel Tower.

Borough Market is a London's oldest food market that operates every Friday and Saturday. It is situated below the train line at London Bridge. I feel this recording really captures the atmosphere of the market, with vendors shouting their "2 for £1.50" offers in a classic London accent and trains screeching overhead.
