In mid-August, all eyes on Cassiopeia constellation, watching for shooting stars, accompanied by a concert of Common Mountain-crickets (Eugrillodes pipiens): a great show!

This is an edited (time ellipsis) recording of the F-35A making repeated distant approaches and withdrawals (and playing a kind of aerial 'hide and seek'), filling in time until its scheduled aerial handling display above the racecourse. The original recording has been normalised to -2.00 dB, and converted from 96 kHz/32 bit WAV to 48 kHz/24 bit FLAC. There was no other processing and there were no effects used whatsoever. The acoustic qualities of this soundscape are entirely the product of the landscape itself, of the acoustic sources, and of the microphones and the unusual microphone array: the MKH 8020s are in an AB array with a spacing of 30 feet (9.1 metres). This is 'Perspective 2' for this set of recordings. This array produces a somewhat oneiric ambience, with a spacious emphasis of lower frequencies. NATURAL SOUNDSCAPES VOL 4 – AMBISONIC - FX library preview

Between the solo flying display of a Pilatus PC-21 and the aerial handling display of a F-35A Lightning II, there was an interval of three hours, during which time I kept recording. Throughout those three hours, three civilian helicopters, one after the other, were repeatedly taking off, departing, returning, and landing again, in a continuous cycle. They were taking customers on brief scenic flights over the racetrack and surrounding city and parks, and would often pass directly overhead after taking off, or when coming back in to land. This recording is just one third of the three hour recording. It is unedited.

Grab your headphones and take a listen to a variety of different sounding race cars.    Post production included compressing the time between vehicle passes which makes it sound like they were racing much closer together.  All tracks normalized for the loudest vehicle to preserve the relative sound levels between cars.  Cars in order of apperance are:
Toyota MR2
BMW M3 6-cylinder
Mustang 4.6 Litre super-charged
V8 powered Porsche 914
WRX
Corvette
Honda s2000 turbo.

None of the vehicles recorded here are considered stock.  

Duryea Hillclimb Auto Race 2016 Sampler

Recorded at the approach end of the Reading Air Show with a Jecklin Disk using two Audio-Technica AT4022 microphones and a Sound Devices 702 recorder.  This is a rare opportunity to hear B-29 bomber performing a high speed low-altitude fly-over.  

This is very close to what it must have sounded like to the Allied prisoners of war who were starving at the Omori prison camp in Tokyo, when suddenly a B-29 flew low over the camp.  Many spirits were revived on that day for sure.

Recording levels were set with minimal gain in order to hopefully eliminate any clipping.  The sound is best heard with wide-range monitors turned up slightly.  If the lapels on your shirt flap during the fly-over you have the sound level set about right.

Recorded at the approach end of the Reading Air Show, three B-25 mitchell bombers, (Briefing Time)(Yankee Warrior) and (Panchito), perform a low-altitude fly-over.  Recorded with a Jecklin Disk using two Audio-Technica AT4022 microphones and a Sound Devices 702 recorder.  The recording gain was turned down in an effort to avoid clipping.  When listening, you should increase the gain on your system.  Wide-range monitors, good speakers, or headphones are best to realize the feel of the sounds.
