For issue 27 we are hugely pleased to present a recording of Hiro Kone’s live performance from the July 6, 2017 Surface Tension. On the night she undertook a finely detailed mapping of our collective psychic topography; quicksilver shifts in tone and mood embodied a flickering spirit, defiantly oriented toward beauty and connection against long, inhuman odds. 

Hiro Kone is Nicky Mao, a New York City based musician and producer. She has solo and joint releases on Group Tightener, Bitterroots, RVNG Intl., Geographic North and is due to release a collaborative LP— The Ghost of Georges Bataille— with Drew McDowall later this year on Bank NYC.

Bridge Guy takes us for a ride with podcast #180! Progressing from disco to intricate house, this us a proper journey into the mind of a talented producer with eclectic taste and serious skills!

Bridge Guy is the newest project from versatile producer Andrew Ashdown. After studying electronic music production at Uni in Leeds he released a number of drum and bass productions on Digital Distortions, receiving praise and recognition across the scene. Building on this success, Andrew launched his own label, Surely Bassy which put out two EPs featuring break beat and bass productions that were distributed worldwide by Cargo. Between producing his own tracks, collaborating with others, and maintaining regular residencies at clubs in Leeds Andrew has over 10 years behind the decks and in the booth. At this point he is ready to launch a new project that fits with the music that is nearest and dearest to his heart, disco and soul. Bridge Guy productions are super chill, lo-fi, organic and beautiful tracks that sample and loop sultry bass lines and make you feel like you are floating in cloud of positive energy!

Recording of me & @drumsofjay DJing b2b for 3 hours at Darkroom in December with Helena Hauff and Nazira at Hangar.  

We played 00:00 - 03:00 in room 2. This whole set felt like magic from start to finish, and we are excited to share this recording with the world. 

Jay & I have this very intertwined musical understanding, probably from the many many hours we spend sharing music with each other and partying together. When we play together we always play one-for-one, and because of our symbiotic feeling for where the set should go, these sets feel like we’re co-creating something special with endless possibilities. 

Thanks to the Darkroom guys for having us down and everyone who was there dancing from start to finish 🖤

Sinchi & Friends 69 is MR TC (@mr_tc_glasgow) who is about to release his latest EP 'The Depth of Haze' on Lyon based @HardFist records. The label headed up by Cornelius Doctor and Tushen Raï, has a fine pedigree working with artists such as Bawrut, Shadi Khries, J.A.K.A.M.,  Pletnev, Khidja, Fringe Society, Timothy Clerkin, Ko Shin Moon, Lokier and Simple Symmetry.

In advance of the release coming mid Feb, we asked how it came about?

I met Baptiste from the label when we played the MR TC live show at Nuits Sonores in 2017. We got on really well and when he came to start the label he asked if I’d like to do a release with them. I sent them these tracks as I made them and when Khidja and Lokier sent us their remixes we had an EP.
