This is my first officially recorded composition which I wrote a few months back. It started off as a late romantic piece with influences from mainly composers such as Micheal Nyman and Chopin, however as time passed I incorporated more and more little motifs and ideas into the piece such as increased dissonance, experimentations of free metre and various other interesting harmonies. The irregular timings, varying harmonic progressions and colouration notes make this work what it is.

It is a late-romantic programmatic piece which has a variation of one of Nietzsche's famous philosophical concepts embedded in the harmonies, melodies, timbre, dynamics and musical articulation... It is a little more tonal than my previous work but relies further harmonic extensions such as the addition of 6ths (most notable one being the Bb in the chord of Dm). All chromaticism, colour, flattened 3rds, odd rhythms and variations allow the thought painting to take place at a metaphysical level. A short piano piece in D Lydian called "The Turquoise Rose that grows in the desert" that I improvised last night. I don't want to give too much away about what the Turquoise Rose means, I will leave that open to your interpretation, but try and picture the image painted by the title. It is an image that conveys many of my thoughts about the art world, and the music is written in such a way that it highlights these picturesque qualities and the philosophies that go with it.

I started writing this piece shortly after I came to college; it had been something I was never satisfied with. I'd always add, remove, edit, extend and shorten sections chronically over the course of the year, because I wanted this to be as perfect as it could be; this is my final version that I can comfortably say I am satisfied with.

Czas is a conceptual piece that explores the emotional experiences and nuances of the passing of time the way I see the world. It tells a story related to change in life and ones emotional journey through the world. It only makes sense and holds meaning when listened to, in its entirety.
