There are only three populations remaining in Melbourne of Murnong or 𝘔𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘢. They are not self-sustaining.

𝘔𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘢 or Murnong is a type of Yam Daisy. For the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and other Aboriginal groups in south-eastern Australia, the Murnong has been an important cultural food source for thousands of years. But today only three populations are remain in Melbourne, and today we visit one on the banks of the Merri Creek. 

Over years of missteps and mistakes (and occasional breakthroughs), the Merri Creek Management Committee has worked with traditional custodians, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung, to learn what this species requires. It was less to do with the plant and more about the special relationship with people, in this place. 

The creators hope this story goes a little way to acknowledging the need to place cultural knowledge as core to conservation planning and developing  'right-way' projects.

Anders and Eloise get the lowdown on the highlights of the Czech and Slovak Film Festival (CASFFA)from its programmer Cerise Howard, including a review of the 1933 game-changer Ecstasy. Meanwhile, the AACTA film festival may just be screening for members but festival host Andy has all the insights about Australian films that may be winning awards and getting wider release. We're back with a discussion of the Conversation With the Stars event that took place across Australia and New Zealand in August and September. Andy finally got author Brad Dukes to sit down for a chat about his book Reflections: An Oral History of Twin Peaks, what life was like inside the hothouse of secrecy and leaks during the production of Season 3, and how despite knowing more than almost anyone, Season 3 defied Brad's expectations.
