Global colocation provider Equinix has extended its presence into the strategic Indian market through the acquisition of GXP India (GPX Global Systems, Inc.). Included in the $161 million all-cash transaction is a fiber-connected campus in Mumbai with two colocation data centers.

The two data centers in Mumbai, now dubbed Equinix MB1 and MB2, have an initial capacity of 1,350 cabinets, with another 500 cabinets on the way. When completed, the facilities will add over 90,000 square feet of colocation space to Platform Equinix.

Equinix’s Mumbai campus provides a cloud-rich environment with direct connectivity to key cloud services such as Amazon Web Services Direct Connect, Google Cloud Dedicated Interconnect, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect. It also hosts key Internet Exchanges such as AMS-IX India, Extreme IX, Mumbai IX-DECIX, NIXI, and Bharat IX, which allow ISPs, carriers, CDNs, and big organizations to exchange Internet traffic through peering arrangements.

Following the completion of the business integration, Equinix expects to provide a comprehensive suite of interconnection and digital infrastructure services in the new data centers, including Equinix Connect, Equinix Internet Exchange, Metro Connect, Equinix Fabric, and Network Edge. Clients in India will be able to connect in real time, directly and privately to more than 10,000 enterprises through Platform Equinix, including more than 1,800 networks and 3,000 cloud and IT service providers.
