Cold morning, return desk blinking like a lighthouse
She stands with a sweater the color of sour decisions
green that vibrates against her skin
Her aunt said it made her glow
but it mostly made her itch in philosophical ways
She hands it over gently
as if surrendering one of those
unwanted wonders
that arrive wrapped in love but stitched in misjudgment

Next in line: the man with the future in a box
A smart toaster that sent him inspirational quotes at 3 a.m.
all while burning bread with perfect confidence
It promised lifestyle integration
it integrated only with dust and disappointment
He shrugs, resets his expectations
and the clerk nods
both of them quietly acknowledging
the unwanted wonders tech keeps inventing for them

A father carries a robot dog
whose bark loops on one eternal, existential note
like it's questioning the meaning of fetch
His kid cried because
"it doesn't love us back"
He didn't know how to explain
that some things never can
The clerk scans it like a memorial ritual
another small addition
to the shelf of unwanted wonders
that couldn't simulate affection convincingly enough

She returns a self-help book
with ten steps, each louder than the last
Step one told her to embrace possibility
Step two told her to transcend limitations
By step three she was already done with the sermon
She isn't broken-just allergic to imperatives
The clerk whispers, "Same"
their solidarity soft
their refund an act of rebellion
against yet another unwanted wonder
promising upgrades to the soul

Then comes the old man
with a gift card to a store he can't pronounce
the kind that sells ethically curated objects
for lives lived very far from his
He says he'd trade it all
for a phone call from his daughter
The clerk stops
Really stops
Gives him cash instead
and wishes he gets something
that isn't an unwanted wonder this year

Closing time
A bin of returns glows under dull fluorescent light
a quiet museum of misfired intentions
People walk out lighter
refund slips in pockets
carrying only what survived the season
the hope that next year
we'll give fewer unwanted wonders
and more of whatever warmth
we still remember how to share

Fourth track in a suite of tracks inspired by a walk along a wooded river bank in the summer close to where I live. This track describes when the river runs through a wooded area and has to chop and change its pace. Enjoy. CD

The blue lotus has deep symbolic meaning in several ancient cultures. It is often associated with rebirth, enlightenment, spiritual awakening, and the cycle of life and death.  

Hathor, the ancient Egyptian goddess of love, beauty, music, and motherhood, was often depicted with the Blue Lotus flower. She was believed to bring joy, fertility, and protection to the people. The blue lotus  blooms along the banks of the Nile, its petals unfurling with the rising sun.
Symbolically, the lotus represents the sun’s power to banish darkness and bring forth light.

The blue lotus, with its narcotic properties, aligns with Hathor’s mystical abilities.
It is said that Hathor herself emerged from the primeval waters, much like the lotus rising from the depths.

In the shadow of the Second World War, a young father stands at the crossroads of love and duty. "Back Home - Farewell" captures the bittersweet magic of a final embrace between a soldier, his beloved wife, and their little daughter before he boards the plane toward the unknown.

This composition balances the virility of a soldier's duty with the tender, protective sweetness of the family he leaves behind.

This piece is a reimagining of a cherished piano solo I composed years ago. For a long time, this melody existed only as a digital VSTi draft. Now, realized with full orchestration, the original themes finally breathe with the emotional weight and cinematic scope they were always meant to have. It is a timeless melody, reborn.

Please, do not expect the aggressive sounds of war. This is a Symphony of Peace. It was composed to evoke the white flag of hope and the promise that love is stronger than conflict.
