Aube (Dawn) is a celebration of the new day and my very first <100bpm downtempo set. 

Recorded on the rooftop of a Panama City downtown tower between 6-8am during the most magical moment of each day: dawn.

A perfect sunrise: immaculate sky, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, surrounded by high energy people.

My first public appearance after one year, a special thanks to Shai, host of this memorable experience.

Spring is in full effect with Layla Benitez blooming in full colour with her exclusive guest mix for this month's podcast!

Born and bred in NYC, Layla has been prominently featured in the city's most happening events. Having played alongside names such as Eli Escobar, Guy Gerber, Lee Foss, Lil' Wayne and Bon Jovi, she's established herself as a mainstay of the city's musical circuits. 

New York City's music truly courses through her veins. She carries forward a legacy that that stretches back all the way to the 80's house scene the city became famous for. A legacy inherited from legendary Studio 54 and Palladium resident DJ JellyBean Benitez, her father. 

She's embraced her past with open arms while simultaneously defining the sounds of tomorrow. Its allowed her to blossom into a multi faceted artist, drawing on her rich heritage and creative inspirations to bridge the classic with the modern.

Raised in a family with a multicultural background and diverse musical influences, Sobhan was exposed to different genres from an early age ranging from Rock and Blues to Reggae, Spanish, French, Indian, classical and Persian music.

His interest in music and especially rhythm led him to play different traditional Persian and western beat instruments such as Daf (Tambourine) and drums. Later, he became particularly interested in electronic music which led him to pursue DJing.

Since migrating to Australia in 2011, Sobhan has been exploring his interest in electronic music and won one of the most prestigious DJ competitions in 2012, Habitat. Since then Sobhan has supported the likes of &ME, Budakid, Matthias Meyer, HNQO, Oxia, Just Her, Way Out West - to name a few. His exposure to both electronic music and traditional Persian music in his home-country and in Australia led him to start his own electronic music production. His sounds are influenced by his musical roots and upbringing, embracing the nomadic sounds from around the world and expressing them within a modern context, creating fusions which can transcend time and place. His music is also influenced by some of his favorite producers such as Armen Miran, Hraach, Kora, DJ Sabo, NU, who have a similar approach in embracing raw and primitive global nomadic sounds.

Through his work, he attempts to create musical journeys that connect the listener to sounds that tell a story, stories of our shared human experiences, through chants, songs and sounds that are new and yet familiar. Sounds that trigger raw emotions, of longing and of homecoming, connecting us to the core of being.

So far, Sobhan has released one EP, ‘Reverie’, on Ready Mix Records and a single track, Hasti, on Art Vibes Music which have gained the support of many prominent artists such as Hraach, Armen Miran, Kora, UNDERS, Maga, Be Svendsen, Niki Sadeki, Zone+, Anatolian Sessions, Savvas, VieL, George X, BiG AL aka BiGz, Amine K. and many more.

Sobhan’s passion for deep, mystical and fusion sounds has recently led him to kickstart a new musical night in Perth, Western Australia under the name ‘Solouk’. Solouk is a Farsi word which translates to ‘The journey of the mystic’. In Solouk, Sobhan and a number of like-minded friends and artists come together to bring an artistic experience delivered through audio/visual medium and introduce a musical journey around the world through their various global sounds. Solouk events have so far attracted much attention and support through the music loving community.
