As we welcome 2023, we thought it was only fitting to bring in La La Land's OG resident.. Kessy.. G.

Anyone who frequents the club has more than likely come across Kessin either DJing or bouncing around the club. Being a part of the club from the get go, Kessy G has witnessed all of the big moments in the club. Not only has he been billed next to some of the industry's biggest names, he has been a key piece in bringing through the next generation of house and dance music lovers across SEQ and beyond. 

With a mega 2022 in the books, featuring performances at Spilt Milk, Falls Festival, a string of interstate shows and mammoth supports (just to name a few), Kess is keen to continue his trajectory into 2023, with debut releases and even bigger shows just around the corner. 

We shot Kessin a Q&A;

Q. 
Kessy G - instrumental in the success of La La Land - What is a memory / moment, DJing or spectating in the club that you would love to relive?

A.
Hahah, very flattering, I’ve had some of my funnest memories in La La Land warming up for people I look up to as an artists, but a core memory would be warming up for Kolombo, or more recently Set mo, they had insane energy.

Q. 
We know you’re busy, but what can we expect to see from you in the first 6 months of 2023? 

A.
It has been a pretty wild last few months with some insane gigs, so I’m really looking forward to locking away in the studio and getting some music out for the first 6 months of 2023.

Who would be your dream B2B? Why? 

A.
Jamie Jones, he is the boss.

Q. 
How would you like to see music & music culture progress in Australia over the coming years? Things you like and things you’d like to see change? 

A.
I would love to see house music become more prominent, I feel the past few years since COVID we have seen a decline, in particular in QLD. I believe all it will take to fix it is more education for the youth who came through that COVID period with no nightclubs or dance clubs. I absolutely love what every DJ is doing in the Brisbane scene and beyond at the moment, pushing the scene, promoting and bringing all their crew along. It’s only a matter of time before house/dance music is back as number 1. Love what you guys are doing at La La Land, keep being number 1 x ❤️

GrooveYard delivers a relentless opening set, exploring high energy garage belters to deep melodic grooves in addition to a ton of unreleased originals and edits. These two are definitely a duo to watch - of course in New York - but their trajectory is on course to make waves in the larger international pool.

Formed on a Brooklyn rooftop in September 2021, this DJ and producer duo, GrooveYard has been taking the New York underground music scene by storm. In a short period of time, they've released tracks with global electronic imprints Farris Wheel Recordings (Chicago), Street Tracks (UK), Hidden Jams (MX).

Inspired by a wide range of past and present producers, GrooveYard is constantly exploring new sounds and pushing the limits with each release. They have mixed tech and melodic styles that have garnered support from rising stars like MauP and legends like Benny Benassi. In 2022, GrooveYard came in 2nd place in Gorgon City's Realm Records demo competition.
