Monologue

When my world comes juddering to a halt
You are there
When the feeling in my fingers goes numb like the ice is taking over
You are there

When the sounds in the distance are the only things I hear
When the light starts to blur and the walls throb with the heat
Like the fluttering of a thousand moths around my eyes
And fill my mouth with their maculate black wings
You are there

LIke the sun between the shutters in the afternoon
Reflecting in the mirrors and spreading across the lily white sheets
Across the gentle curves
Sparkling in that single ball of perspiration in the small of your back

Stepping lightly across my floor
The light of a thousand suns
And the heat that blisters the varnish on the wooden slats
Burns my fingers on the metal rails made molten in the evening furnace

Yours is the only heat that penetrates my skin

5. The Road to Santiago

You not feeling any pain
You’re not seeing any gain
This healing takes the loss and buries it deep inside the shame

this feeling’s not your call
It’s not the feelings you recall
It’s just a image of a ghost playing games inside your mind 

In this long, cold embrace
If I scent another fragrance
If I sense another face
It’s a blinding summer light that comes and goes

And now shadows start to fall
And dark swallows heed our call
And the sun sits on horizons like lost lovers sullen scowl

Yes we almost had it all
But it’s not evening nor the fall
It’s just an image that projects from every traveller who has ever  strayed
