On Friday February 7 2014 as Dj Premier was in Detroit performing at Dilla Day, I was filling in for Premier on his Sirius/Xm radio show "Live From Headqcourterz". Being that it was what would have been J-Dilla's 40th birthday I did an all Dilla set in my second hour honoring the late great Producer/MC/DJ. 
James "Jay-Dee", "J-Dilla" Yancey died in 2006 at the young age of 32 from cardiac arrest after a long battle with a rare blood disease.... 

He was one of the music industry's most influential and respected hip-hop artists.

For this release Royalz has continued his artist appreciation series with Long Island's finest Roc Marciano, an MC he holds in the highest regard.

Ensuring each track is flipped differently to the original yet still fitting the theme of the album; a throw back to better times. A time before sample clearances and copyright law changed the soundscape of hip hop.

Always learning and experimenting, Royalz utilises raw drum breaks to chopped hits to leaving the drums out completely. Adding live bass guitar played by HG front man Bigfoot and subtle effects, Royalz captures the sound of an era past but not forgotten.

Sometimes we need to go back before we can move forward.

On Friday 4/13/19 it was the 3rd anniversary of Keith "Guru" Elam's passing. So While Dj Premier was away doing a show I filled in for him on his radio show "Live From Headqcourterz". As much as it is an honor to be regularly asked by Premier to fill in for him, this night was really special because not only would I fill in but I was also allowed to do a tribute set to his late partner in Gang Starr, Guru. As Guru was one of my favorite MC's of all time and Gang Starr is my favorite rap group of all time, this mix was truly from the heart. On top of that to do this mix live in front of Guru's long time engineer Eddie Sancho & his long time friend Panchi of the NYG'z, made it even more special.
