Last Awakeing improvisation

The term "Fool's Gold" describes something that on the surface, seems flashy and valuable, but on the inside, is ultimately worthless.

Conducted by Catherine Lee, premiered by the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra in Sofia, Bulgaria on the 9th of July, 2024 as part of the Sofia Symphonic Summit 2024.

Fool's Gold (Orchestra)

Guitar - Daniel Murray

Premiered by Daniel Murray at the Praça das Artes in São Paulo, Brazil on the 16th of August, 2024 as part of the São Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival.

The first movement is about the biological unlikelihood of an 'albino cassowary'. The inclusion of a bird native to the rainforests of Queensland exist to highlight the shared tropical link between Northern Australia and Southern Brazil. Rhythms found in bossa nova music are used to accentuate the Brazilian influence.

The second movement portrays a lonely desert town at dusk, the isolated kind that are countlessly dotted around rural Australia.

The third movement is meant to depict avoiding swooping magpies while walking through existentially boring, sun-drenched suburbs.

Overture to the chamber opera "Le Storie di Ostra", an intercontinental collaborative effort between Italian, Mexican, and Australian composers. A concept created by Alessandro Bianchi, Girolamo Deraco, and Gabriele Micheli.

It was premiered on April the 6th, 2024 at the Teatro la Vittoria in Marche, Italy as part of the Puccini Chamber Opera Festival 2024.

Overture to Le Storie di Ostra (Opera Overture)

Abaporu – as an archetype – is ageless. Life’s journey is full of mystique, of unknowns. Our struggle to seek advantage, or to simply survive. It represents our journey in defining our own identities. One that is not merely based on what others perceive, but what has been studied, practiced, integrated and thus made our own.

Study: paying close attention to who have come before us and who are next to us right now. Practice: thoughtful application of what one has learned. Integrate: honest appraisal of what drives us and what influences we seek to adapt.

Naturally, the above principles have guided me in writing the notes in front of you. That they may make this world a better place.

A special thanks to Ricardo Averbach, who inspired me to write Abaporu, through his thoughtful study of Brazilian identity.


Abaporu

A gentle sleep song for those who are in need of it.

Sleep song

This is a work for flute, clarinet, trombone, and string quartet. It is about endometriosis, a disease in which cells like those in the endometrium, the layer of tissue that normally covers the inside of the uterus, grows outside, causing a significant amount of pain and heavy bleeding in menstruating people (and other primates). The music is largely atonal to create feelings of great discomfort. The piece was designed to create awareness about people who suffer from this condition.

Premiered in Bangkok, Thailand as part of the Triphens Ensemble concerts on November 28th and 29th, 2025.
