exxclusive | Locky Mazzucchelli - Day 25 | Small World

Locky Mazzucchelli has a knack for twisting familiar elements into unexpected shapes, and “Day 25” on Small World Compilation Vol. 2 shows just how deep his experiments run. The track opens in stripped-back territory: bleepy acid fragments orbit around one another, setting up a sense of both tension and playfulness. A raw, no-nonsense house bassline soon locks the groove into place, grounding the track’s restless swirl with body-moving intent.

But “Day 25” doesn’t stop there. About halfway through, a deep and dubby synth line creeps in, instantly shifting the mood and widening the scope. It’s a moment of transformation that recontextualizes everything before it - turning what could’ve been a lean acid-house workout into something layered, hypnotic, and emotionally resonant. Funky, raw, and subtly heady, it’s a track that straddles the line between peak-time propulsion and afterhour introspection, perfectly aligned with Small World’s ethos of global-minded yet floor-focused sounds.

Solid Grooves reveal their 2020 'Summer Sampler' as co-founders Michael Bibi and PAWSA are joined by a fresh selection of the collective's core residents this August.

An imprint established just five years ago, yet one that stands today as one of the scene's most in-demand labels, Michael Bibi and PAWSA's Solid Grooves Records continues to go from strength to strength with their unmistakable sound showcased via their core global family of artists and residents. Following on from the label's biggest 12 months to date, with five Beatport #1's since 2019's V/A offering, mid-August now welcomes the arrival of 2020's sampler instalment as both label co-founders return to deliver highly anticipated unreleased productions, alongside fresh material from label favourite Dennis Cruz, Spanish duo Eddy M and Bassel Darwish, Barcelona's Reelow, UK resident Ramin Rezaie, and the latest addition to the SG family, Italian DJ and producer Blackchild (ITA).

Bassel Darwish's rolling cut 'Origin' opens the package in style, whilst Blackchild (ITA)'s 'Por La Calle' keeps the focus on organic percussion whilst upping the energy levels and introducing resonant sax riffs throughout. Next, MÜSE bosses Dennis Cruz and Eddy M step up with Cruz delivering a typically slick effort via the impressive 'El Puma', whilst Eddy M's 'Goodie Bag' combines trademark grooves, bumping bass licks and infectious vocal samples. The second half signals the introduction of both label co-founders, with Bibi finally releasing the highly anticipated and hypnotic sonics of 'Dance To The Devil', whilst 'Full Tilt' welcomes a high-octane journey through slinking drum grooves and menacing basslines courtesy of PAWSA. To close, Ramin Rezaie's 'Bam' pairs things back and balances drum grooves loaded with swing alongside sweeping melodies, before the warping 'Voices In My Damn Head' sees Reelow introduce soaring electronic leads and off kilter drums arrangement to shape up proceedings.

The Argentinean Rigzz had a great last 12 months: he released on labels like Eastenderz or Avotre and became one the artists to follow of South American electronic music scene. Now we are happy to have his debut release on the label with a couple of tracks produced with some friends.

'MR061' is produced together with Mehlor, a British talent whom released in some of the best minimal house labels of this moment. The track is about a huge bassline and some dreamy chords. For the second track, Rigzz joins forces with Mod32, another upcoming talent from Argentina, to make 'Wannado', something close to classic deep house but made in 2020: great beat programming, groove, harmonies and well-chosen vocal sample. Great debut by Rigzz, we are sure will see his tracks again soon on the label.

Milo is 22 years old, born in The Hague and recently moved to Amsterdam. He as always been a music addict. When he was only five years old he started drumming on his drumkit. Over the years he became increasingly interested in electronic music. Starting with producing techno Milo found that his true passion was for the underground house scene. For him groove is in the heart and it’s all about mood and a deep, hypnotic groove. His uplifting, groovy tech house already got picked up by artists like ANOTR, Toman and Chris Stussy, which is an impressive sign of things to come for the young talent.

Hailing from Warrington in the North of England, Ben Walsh' arrival on the scene in the last 12 months has been a rapidly successful one, his maiden release, Afrikan Dance hitting #1 on Beatport's top 100 across all genres.

His first release for NastyFunk, 'Can't U See' is an uplifting funk of a track, investing in minorly happy 303 patterns and intelligent percussive movement. It make you shake.

B Side 'Le's We Go' carries more of the exotic flavour over with some great use of analogue drum sounds and atmospheric vocals overlayed on a simply effective 4 x 4 groove.

On remix duties are label boss, Erik Christiansen and partner David Museen bringing a fresh energetic take on the original.
