Here's my rendition of Peggy Lee's "I Love Being Here With You," as part of my senior project titled Breaking Into the Boy's Club: The Creative Minds of Women in Jazz.

I Love Being Here With You

I started writing this song when I was living in Berlin, Germany in 2019. I was only there for four months, but I moved there totally alone and didn't know how to speak German. There were times when I thought, "how could I be so stupid? Why did I think I could move to this foreign country and survive on my own?" I had many days like that, but also many days when I felt grateful to myself for taking a leap and doing something totally out of my comfort zone. I did it, and came out on the other side. Each verse of this song was written at a different point in my life, and it wasn't finished until a year after I started it. It feels complete now, and I'm happy and humbled to share it with you.

Somehow

This is a song about wanting to go further with someone you're seeing but both of you are too afraid or too timid to take the first step. And you feel like you need to act soon or they'll never know how you feel. Feelings of frustration, fear, maybe some hopelessness too.
