"Illusory Realm" is set in a dark dream world. I imagined being lost and despondent with no clear path to walk.  No direction to go. The Harp sets the tone to this piece and keeps it very fantasy-like. The Oboe carries a haunting sadness and the Tremolo Strings add a bit of tension. For you never know what lurks around each corner. Is this merely a dream? Or some twisted reality?

This piece is "Asian Graveyard." It's a bit of a cross between being ambience and being musical. I kept it very minimal with the instruments I've used and relied on some atmospheric sounds and padding to fill in the blanks. As the name suggests, I imagined being in a graveyard.

"Massacre on Teddy Bear Hill" starts with some lighter pizzicato and chimes, albeit playing in a deceivingly insidious tone. Once the guitar and cello enter, the piece starts to shape up to its true, treacherous form. Once the chorus hits, flutes take the main melody. Their 
lighthearted, airiness tries to mask what's really happening, but we all really know what's going on. Bears are being slaughtered. And all they wanted to do was have a picnic...

"Massacre On Teddy Bear Hill" Royalty Free Music

Humberstone composed his Requiem from 2001-2003 in memory of his mother. In includes quotes of the English folk tune "The Prickety Bush" which his mother was fond of, as well as references to Satie and Humberstone's own experimental and minimal influences.

This recording is of a 2006 revision which was completed at the request of Sydneian Bach Choir conductor Chris Shepard, using smaller instrumental resources to make the work tourable (the original version features full strings, and no percussion or piano). There is also a version for choir with organ alone. The Sydneian Bach Choir did not take the work on tour, but did premiere this version at Sydney Grammar School in 2006.
