the homework for this week:

1) Be The Hermit. Tune in to sounds around you in places you frequent, record them, note down what you're hearing and feeling.
2) Be The Fool. Experiment with the recording, "sound outwards" from it, follow curiosity, and take big strides.

i recorded the sounds from my back deck, and the sound of me going in and out the back door. I sampled this into percussion, and out came this track.

For homework #2, the prompt was to build two "rooms" using different musical elements as parts of the room. A drone or motif could be a pillar in the center, there could be chandeliers as chimes or high arps, there could be a fuzzy bass as carpet. Make one room, then make another, and connect the two.

This confused the hell out of me and felt weird and difficult. I eventually simplified things down, for my own sake, to "make two parts of something." I've really been into the 2000s fantasy manga and video game aesthetic lately, so I played with ROMplers and made this.

For homework 3, we had to write a micro-manifesto about our "audentity." You write out all your influences, what your intentions are in making music, and all the tools you have. Then, you write a three sentence "micro-manifesto."

With this song I am __________ (intent). I’m drawing
inspiration from __________(influence). I’m making it by __________ (implementation).

I didn't like this one so much. I was gummed up and confused all week, and finally eeked something out at the last minute. Still, I kinda like what I made.

I shirked the rules and instead decided I would do whatever I felt like in the moment and not follow any rules 

OPN hw3: i honestly can't remember what this one was about

for the arca songwriting workshop

this week's assignment was to meditate 10min, do something comfortable and familiar for 10min, then do something unfamiliar or uncomfortable for 10min.

i used familiar chords and style of playing the keyboard that i do all the time, then tried uncomfortable by singing and recording myself. i also tried out plugins i barely know, or using familiar plugins in ways i usually don't (e.g. automating reverb decay or compressing things heavily)
